About Ralph
Born in Tucson in 1944, Mr. Ellinwood comes from a territorial family. His great-grandfather E. E. Ellinwood came to Arizona in 1890. E. E. Ellinwood was a lawyer of prominence in Arizona, a member of the Arizona Constitutional Convention , candidate for Governor, and member of the Arizona Board of Regents among many honors. Mr. Ellinwood's maternal grandfather was Harry O. Juliani, also a lawyer as well as the founder of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Ellinwood's uncle, John C. Ellinwood, was a distinguished member of a prominent Phoenix law firm for many years.
Mr. Ellinwood is a member of the Canoa Ranch Community Trust/Oversight Committee, and is a former member of the Tucson Convention Center oversight committee.
Mr. Ellinwood brings to the firm 34 years of experience in the most demanding aspects of trial practice. He has been an elected District Attorney, Public Defender, and private lawyer in both Tucson and rural southwestern New Mexico. He has tried over 200 cases to juries. Mr. Ellinwood is qualified to handle Death Penalty cases. He has extensive experience in the defense of accusations of sexual misconduct and internet or computer sex crimes. Mr. Ellinwood's experience qualifies him to manage and try complex cases including white-collar criminal accusations, accusations of fraud, and accusations of financial crimes . Mr. Ellinwood can be retained to provide pre-charge investigation and counsel.
Mr. Ellinwood is a Certified Criminal Law Specialist by the State Bar of Arizona. He received Martindale-Hubble's highest rating of AV representing the excellent opinion of Mr. Ellinwood held by lawyers and judges in the community. He was selected as a 2008 Super Lawyer© for Arizona and New Mexico.
While Mr. Ellinwood has primarily had a criminal defense practice, he has handled personal injury cases, legal malpractice, contract drafting and disputes, and wills and probate matters.
Mr. Ellinwood has been a long-term member of the Board of Governors of Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice a statewide criminal defense lawyer organization. In 2003, Mr. Ellinwood had the great honor to be the AACJ president .
Mr. Ellinwood has taught legal writing at the University of Arizona law school.
