Reginald Tony Moss | Miami Criminal Lawyer

Tony Moss is a criminal defense attorney who has practiced in the South Florida area since 1988. He has handled a wide variety of state and Federal cases, ranging from drug offenses to bank fraud, from white collar crimes to capital murder prosecutions. He has handled over 60 death-eligible cases, four of which were tried to a penalty phase verdict, without losing a single client to Florida’s Death Row. In March 2007, he opened the Criminal Justice Center of South Dade, P.A. (now the South Dade branch office), the only full-time criminal law office in the Homestead-Florida City area, and the first since Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Two years later, he opened his Ft. Lauderdale office to better serve his growing Broward County clientele.

Tony Moss has been admitted to practice before all Florida state courts, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He has been qualified to accept indigent appointments in Miami-Dade and Broward counties and in the United States District Court, and also to appear as “learned counsel” in federal death penalty prosecutions nationwide.

Tony is a proud Life Member of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers-Miami chapter, and is also an active member of the Statewide and Broward County chapters of FACDL and of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.  He was a longtime member of the FACDL–Miami Board of Directors, and served as chapter secretary in 2009-10, and currently serves on the Capital Litigation Committee and as the Chapter’s liaison with the Clerk of Courts for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida (Miami-Dade County).

Tony also serves as a Regional Director, representing Broward County, for the Florida Capital Resource Center, a new statewide organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of death penalty representation in the State of Florida. In addition, he has served on a number of professional and civic organizations throughout his career, ranging from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (Commissioner, 1997-2001), to the Greater Homestead-Florida City Chamber of Commerce (current), to Florida Bar Grievance Committee 11P (1997-2000) and Committee 11L (2010-present).

As a believer in the maxim, “Each one, reach one–each one, teach one,” Tony Moss has also volunteered untold hours toward the advancement of the legal profession and the criminal defense bar. He has served for years as a guest lecturer and faculty member at numerous defense seminars and workshops around the country, and is especially proud to be a 2000 charter faculty member of the Clarence Darrow Death Penalty College (sponsored by DePaul University College of Law in Chicago), and the recipient of the College’s first Meritorious Service Award in 2003. He also provides free legal consultation statewide to prison inmates who no longer qualify for free appointed counsel, and has been a sought-after speaker for youth groups and school programs throughout Miami-Dade County.

In his spare time, Tony is an avid saltwater fisherman, a jazz and blues enthusiast, and a lifetime basketball fan and longtime season ticket holder with the NBA’s Miami Heat. He enjoys mountain biking and outdoor grilling, and has traveled extensively throughout the United States, as well as to Mexico, Brazil, the Caribbean, Northern Europe, and most recently to China. He is also the proud “papa” of two shelter mutts: Mojo, a miniature pinscher, and Ranger, a yellow Labrador-chow mix. They make sure that he always wakes up smiling and goes to bed smiling, no matter what the day may bring in between.
