About Richard
The largest component of Richard Cayo's practice is representation of other lawyers and law firms in professional responsibility and legal malpractice matters. Richard has participated in thousands of investigations by the agency appointed by the Wisconsin Supreme Court to prosecute ethics charges against lawyers. Many of his cases have included trials before Supreme Court Referees and appeals to the Supreme Court. Richard's practice includes service as a legal ethics consultant to law firms and as an expert witness in professional responsibility matters. For his work in this field, Richard was designated a "Wisconsin Super Lawyer" in a poll of Wisconsin Attorneys
Richard has been a frequent author and perennial lecturer at continuing legal education seminars on the subject of lawyer's professional responsibility. He has served on numerous committees appointed by the State Bar of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Supreme Court to review the Rules of Professional Conduct which regulate the practice of law. He has served multiple terms as a member of the State Bar's Board of Governors and one as a member of the Milwaukee Bar Association's Board of Directors. He has also been a member of the National Organization of Bar Counsel, the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers and the Wisconsin Association of Trial Lawyers.
Richard also represents other licensed professionals such as doctors, pharmacists, realtors, accountants and the like before the Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensing and he involves himself in workers compensation and securities matters. Richard is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School. He served as Deputy Administrator for the Wisconsin Supreme Court's Board of Attorneys Professional Responsibility from 1978 1983. He is president of Halling & Cayo SC.
