About Richard

Richard A. Gollhofer was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1955. He received a Bachelor's degree in computer science from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (after completing most courses required of electrical engineers specializing in digital electronics) and a Juris Doctor degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology/Chicago-Kent College of Law. Mr. Gollhofer was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1981, to the District of Columbia bar in 1985, and to the U.S. Supreme Court Bar in 2009.

After graduation from Rose, Mr. Gollhofer worked as a programmer/systems analyst for the Chicago Department of Public Works. Today, Mr. Gollhofer primarily is responsible for obtaining intellectual property in many fields using computer hardware and software, including preparing and prosecuting patent applications and evaluating patents for robots; process control systems; radar systems; medical equipment; optical imaging systems; cameras; and communication systems, including transmission systems, voice mail, and local area wide area and global computer networks and their use in e-commerce.

Mr. Gollhofer is a member of the engineering and mathematics honor societies: Tau Beta Pi and Pi Mu Epsilon. He also is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Computer and Telecommunications Law Section of the District of Columbia Bar, the Association for Computing Machinery, and IEEE.

Mr. Gollhofer is the author of "Copyright Protection of Computer Software: What is it and how did we get it?", Software Law Journal , Vol. V, No. 4, 1992 and co-author with Mr. Beckers of "An Analysis of the Final U.S.P.T.O. Examination Guidelines for Computer-Related Inventions", International Legal Strategy , Vol. V-3, March 1996.
