About Richard

Who I am:

I was born in Akron, Ohio on June 30, 1957. I attended college at Bowling Green State University, graduating in 1979. I went on to law school at the University of Akron and received both my Law Degree and my Master's Degree in Taxation in 1982. Therefore, I have been practicing law for almost 30 years and have handled thousands of cases involving the following:

            Nursing Home Abuse                 Wrongful Death

            Personal Injury                          Medical Malpractice

            Legal Malpractice                       Product Liability

            Corporate Law

Business Related Problems & Commercial Litigation

How I Will Serve You:

Like all the attorneys at Slater & Zurz, LLP , I am focused on getting the best results for my clients in the fastest way possible. I get those results by meticulously investigating, researching and preparing your case while aggressively pursuing it. I want to understand every detail and provide my clients with all the information and advice to make decisions that are in their best interest. By taking this approach, I am able to resolve most issues amicably and without the need for a trial. However, if a trial in a court of law is necessary, I bring extensive experience and a respected reputation as a very effective litigator with a proven track record of success.

Why I Practice Law:

I firmly believe that every person, no matter who you are, where you live or how much money you have is entitled to justice in our legal system. The juducial system is often times adversarial and my passion lies with helping all my clients prevail in that system.

My Most Memorable Cases :

Here are two of my most memorable cases:

A worker was assisting in making modifications to an industrial machine.  The equipment activated without warning, trapping the worker inside the machine and severing the lower half of his body.  After protracted litigation with the machine owner, the manufacturers of the equipment and its component parts, and the contractors who participated in its set-up and installation, a substantial monetary settlement was obtained for the worker.

A dispute as to the ownership of church buildings, real estate and personal property arose when a local congregation withdrew from its affiliation with the mother-church.  After a lengthy trial involving numerous witnesses and hundreds of documents, a verdict was rendered in favor of our client.  The decision was then successfully defended on appeal, creating a very favorable precedent.
