Attorney Ray E. Richards II has been practicing law in Michigan since 1997. Attorney Richards achieved amazing accomplishments throughout his law education at The Ohio Northern University with victories in National Law Moot Court, Mock Trial, and Administrative Law Moot Court competitions. He has since been building his criminal defense practice and handling numerous very high profile criminal defense cases around the Detroit area and nationwide. At his firm they are passionate about justice, prepared to fight for their clients in any courtroom, and poised to try a case to a jury anytime, anywhere!

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

Father with family was charged with murder. Was able to get the murder charges dismissed and him back to his family and job within a couple weeks. Preparation, persistence and patience helped me to make sure he was able to attend his oldest child's graduation! College kid got into a pinch with some other of his friends and some jewelry was stolen and they were arrested in the vehicle used for the heist. After the press coverage, a successful preliminary exam and pretrial negotiations case ended up being dismissed. That young man ended up graduating from a very prestigious University here in the State of Michigan, received his Masters Degree and Law Degree, received a prestigious job with the Mayor of the City of Detroit and now is a best selling author, mentor and very sought after motivational speaker!

How did you build a successful practice?

Hard work, a lot of sacrifice and always striving to improve my craft as a criminal defense lawyer with Boot camp seminars, advance topic workshops and being a voracious reader!

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Clients look for a lawyer that isn't afraid to fight on their behalf. A lawyer who cares about their freedom and well being and a lawyer who can soothe their anxieties about what they are going through but yet keep it real as to what they are facing. A lawyer that is respected and well known when he or she walks into a courtroom. A lawyer that isn't afraid to go to trial and win!

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

It is critical. Was always taught "Know with whom you deal!" You also want them to know who you are and the best way for that to happen is through stellar work in the courtroom!

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

A basic strategy to defend the case and the fee that will be necessary to get the discussed goals completed.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

The basic who, what, when and where of what happened without making any admissions of involvement or guilt (can be discussed in a face to face meeting) ...Who the Judge is if assigned at the time of the call and what county did the arrest and or offense allegedly occur.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

My experience and success in State and Federal Courts nationwide. Not many lawyers have had cases to the breadth and complexity that I have had and been successful as well. I get results and I don't BS or mislead the client in what I say I can do for them! The good the bad or the ugly I always strive to be very creative, optimistic and aggressive with the defense of my clients.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Helping to attain that freedom to get clients back to their families, careers and lives in general.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

Reading working out and riding my Harley Davidson thousands of miles, cross country.

Are you involved in your community?

Very much so! Mentorship programs for young men and college students are my focus...they need a road map to success and role models to assist them to navigate them to meet and exceed their goals!

  • State v D.J. Mr. D.J. was charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct 1st against the scorned mother of his children from which he was estranged. Mr. D.J. was facing a life sentence. Scorned mother of his children had convinced the police, prosecutor and even his children (who were sleep when this alleged violent occurrence occurred) that he raped her. Mr. D.J. as found not guilty! U.S. vs. Mr. P. Mr. P. a faithful, practicing, black Muslim and well known and respected physical education teacher was arrested from his classroom on various gun charges and charges related to alleged pseudo terrorist activities. His religious leader was killed during an FBI raid. All the members of the mosque were rounded up by the government to face charges. Most of them were detained, to await trial for fear of flight and being a danger to the community. Mr. P. was initially detained under these pretenses but the client and Mr. P would not and could not take this decision without a fight. At a detention hearing appealing the intial detention order, Attorney Richards won the release of Mr. P. on bond and the return of the valuable seized from him as a result of the arrest. State v. Mr. Th. S. Mr. Th.S., a record executive/producer, rapper and songwriter, was charged with Murder in the 1st Degree, and four counts of Assault with intent to Murder against police officers and numerous other weapons charges. Case was dismissed on motion by the Judge. Case was then appealed and sent back to the trial court for a retrial. Other jury found him not guilty. Client (who was shot in the ordeal) netted a six figure settlement in the civil suit against the police department. For more information, please visit www.rayrichardsesq.com/notable_cases.php

If you or someone you know is facing DUI charges from a checkpoint stop, it’s crucial to know the law and how to protect yourself.
Will a speeding ticket in Pennsylvania affect my automobile insurance?
Receiving a speeding ticket in Pennsylvania can indeed impact your automobile insurance premiums. Insurance companies view speeding violations as indicators of increased risk, which often leads to higher rates. On average, Pennsylvanians may see their insurance premiums rise by approximately 19% following a speeding ticket. However, this percentage can vary based on factors such as the severity of the offense, your previous driving record, and the specific policies of your insurance provider.
