PAYNE v SANELLO

Lawsuit involving a former nurse of Sharon Stone who sued a publishing company for using her name in a book that claimed that Sharon Stone had sexually harassed the nurse. The case was settled out of court in favor of the attorney's client.

O'NEAL V. SLAUGHTER (IN RE ESTATE OF MURRAY

Appellant: Attorney for the appellants, Polly O'Neal and Gary Stinnett. At issue is the estate of Robert C. Murray. The deceased had a child, Joyce Slaughter respondent, at seventeen. Once he became of age he married the child's mother and the couple resided in the state of Nevada until his death in 2012. Joyce was identified as his sole living child. The appellants, who are the sister and nephew of the deceased filed a petition to be appointed special administrators of the estate. They argued that because Robert married Joyce's mother after her birth, she must prove parentage to be the legal heir. Joyce used her legal birth certificate to contest their argument which showed the deceased as her biological father. A probate commission agreed with Slaughter and appointed her as the administrator of her father's estate. The Plaintiff's appealed this decision. Upon review of the case and the evidence presented by both sides, the appeals court agreed with the decision made my the probate commissioner. The judgment was affirmed.
