About Robert

Robert D. Kawamura is an experienced Hawaii personal injury and collections attorney. He has been practicing law in Hawaii and California for over 27 years. He is a former NBC Hawaii News 8 Legal Expert. He has successfully represented thousands of people for injury and death claims occurring in Hawaii and has collected hundreds of debts for individuals and companies.
While many of his clients are Hawaii residents, he has also represented hundreds of individuals from across the United States and from around the world. He represents his clients on a contingency fee basis, meaning that there is no fee if there is no recovery.
He recovers damages for personal injuries, wage loss, medical bills, pain and suffering, property damage or loss and for wrongful death. He handles individual cases as well as class actions. All consultations are free. He has represented victims of motor vehicle accidents, airplane and helicopter crashes, ocean recreation accidents, bus accidents, bicycle accidents, motorcycle accidents, medical malpractice, unsafe premises, defective products, falling merchandise and assaults and battery.
He also collects personal and commercial debts. He is the exclusive collection attorney for one of America's largest collection agencies. He will collect your debt or there is no fee.
He also defends individuals and companies against claims and lawsuits. Mr. Kawamura was formerly nationwide litigation defense counsel for one of the world's largest automobile manufacturers and therefore is very experienced and knowledgeable on both the plaintiff and defense sides of cases.
He is also an Arbitrator with the First Circuit Court's Court-Annexed Arbitration Program. He practices in all courts on all Hawaiian Islands.

We represent our clients on a contingency fee basis. A contingency fee is a fee that the lawyer earns only if he/she recovers money for you. If there is no recovery there is no fee. The fee is a percentage of the recovery. We charge a 1/3 (33.33%) contingency fee, meaning that if we recover for you, we receive 33.33% of and from the recovery. If we file a lawsuit for you, the fee increases only 1.67% to 35.00%. The Hawaii General Excise Tax (4.172%) is also applied to the fee. The advantage to a contingency fee is that the client does not have to pay any money to hire us. The only items that a client would have to pay for are "costs". However, costs are only incurred with your prior consent. Typical costs are the court filing fee (between $140 and $400 depending on the court), medical record fees, court reporter fees, expert fees and expenses, and investigation search fees.
