About Robert
Robert Elan serves as the Managing Attorney for The Elan Law Firm and is based in the New York office. Mr. Elan is a skilled trial and appellate lawyer who has practiced law since 1975. From 1975 through 1991, Mr. Elan was employed by Great American Insurance Companies as a litigator and later, Senior Trial Counsel, Managing Attorney and Attorney of Record for the company in the State of New York. He also served as a litigator, Managing Attorney, and Attorney of Record for General Accident Insurance Company in its Brooklyn, New York office. Thereafter, Mr. Elan was a senior trial lawyer for Smith-Mazure Law firm with over 30 attorneys. Mr. Elan entered private practice in 1995 to specialize in personal injury, real estate as well as insurance & business matters.
In addition to significant trial experience in both plaintiff and defense litigation involving personal injury, commercial and insurance coverage matters, Mr. Elan has briefed and/or argued numerous appeals before the New York Court of Appeals and Appellate Divisions of the First and Second Departments, including numerous cases involving matters of first impression.
As an Assistant Professor of Law at CUNY-Queens College, Mr. Elan has taught law for more than 25 years, authoring the Supplemental Guide to the Uniform Commercial Code. Mr. Elan has served as a judge in Moot Court competitions for national law schools sponsored by the American Bar Association receiving honors for his service.
