Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I have had several cases in the last few years where clients brought me wills that were not prepared with proper form, but our office was able to convince the court to probate the wills and allow the beneficiaries to receive their assets.
How did you build a successful practice?
I have been a practicing attorney in Texas for 28 years and have maintained my own practice The Law Office of R. Gary Shapley for 22 years. My practice has grown mainly through word of mouth and referrals from past clients who have positively endorsed this office to others who have retained my services.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should look for integrity and experience in a lawyer. Also large law firms may charge much more for their services and actually have an attorney with less experience represent them.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Texas law, particularly in the Probate area, is different than probate law in other states. Knowledge of the local rules and being familiar with the local courts are an advantage to any attorney and their client(s). I am a native Houstonian who has lived in the Houston Metropolitan area for my entire life and have practiced law in Houston for over 28 years.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I will attempt to evaluate a case and whether this office will take a case by telephone if possible. Sometimes it is necessary to review documents and if this is the case a face to face meeting with the client may be necessary.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I am a professor of Business Law, Criminal Justice, and Government at the Houston Community College and at American Intercontinental University.
