Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
We took on an insurance company that was mistreating a claimant instead of properly paying a claim for a fire loss. Through our efforts, the insurance company paid the claim and more, paying also for its bad faith conduct.
How did you build a successful practice?
At Kasieta Legal Group, LLC, we built our practice on a belief that our clients are important and that their causes require our best efforts. We see it as a sacred obligation to take matters that clients bring us and ensure that our clients get a fair hearing and fair compensation for their losses.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should look for a track record of success in the area of the client's case. Most importantly, the client should look for a lawyer who is smart, who is well-respected in the legal profession, and who cares deeply about clients.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is important, but it can be obtained quickly through investigation. At Kasieta Legal Group, LLC, we try cases all over the country and in the territories. We learn about local issues and cultures before trying any case.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
When we consult with a potential client by phone we try to answer all questions. We also try to give an honest assessment of how we view the case. Lawyers view cases differently, but we believe that we provide a service by candidly describing what we believe are the strengths and weaknesses of the case. We also clearly set out what the terms of our retainer will be if we are able to accept the case. After that initial call, we typically extensively investigate the matter to determine whether we will be able to help.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
At the initial consultation we need as many of the specific facts that the caller can provided. Ideally, that includes all key facts, the dates of key events, and the names of key people involved. There is always an opportunity to follow up with additional information that is not available at that initial consultation.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I am a Certified Civil Trial and Pre-Trial Specialist. That means that a national certifying agency has examined my record and certified my work in the area of civil trial work. I have also won the designation of SuperLawyer and been listed by national agencies among the best lawyers in my city and state.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Certainly, the most rewarding aspect of my practice is working with clients. I am always impressed with the nobility of clients, whose lives have been changed forever by some injury caused by another, and yet, they are invariably optimistic and really fine people. Those characteristics make it really easy for me to work hard for our clients.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I really enjoy international travel. Marcia, my wife, and I have been to all but two of the continents. It is always so interesting to meet people from other countries and get to know who they are and how they think. We always return from those experiences with a deeper appreciation for the things in our country. We also carry with us forever a greater regard for other parts of the world that are sometimes portrayed badly in our media.
Are you involved in your community?
When I was 29 years old, I became the mayor of our city. Since then, I have served on our city council, regional planning commission, and state elections board. But the greatest public service I have been involved in is going on now. I am serving as president of a non-profit company I started, the Badger Prairie Needs Network. It is a regional company designed to address issues of poverty in our community. BPNN provides a food pantry, commercial kitchen, legal services, computer training, health services, and more. We are committed to a volunteer organization that makes a difference in our community. Our 200 volunteers amaze me every day as we work together to really change the lives of people in our community. If I take pride in anything I have done, it is in bringing together those 200 volunteers to take on the complex, daunting challenge of generational poverty.
