About Robert
ROBERT L. FEARS was born in Princeton, Caldwell County, Kentucky in 1940. He attended the University of Kentucky for his undergraduate education and graduated from the University of Kentucky with his law degree in 1969. In 1972, Robert L. Fears moved to Hopkinsville, Kentucky and opened a private law practice in the old Hopkinsville Federal Savings and Loan building on South Main Street. In 1978, Mr. Fears moved his office across the street to 605 South Main Street on the corner of 7th Street and Main Street. The law office of Robert L. Fears remains at this location today.
Initially, Mr. Fears worked in criminal defense on the state and federal level. For twenty years, from 1975 to 1995, Mr. Fears served as area chief counsel for Grange Mutual Insurance Company, representing the company in automobile accidents, truck wrecks, and other injury cases. In 1972, he also began to specialize in child support enforcement and he served as the attorney for Christian County’s “Friend of the Court” for thirty-six years. During the years Mr. Fears served with Friend of the Court he has handled more than 100,000 cases and collected well in excess of $100 million in child support. His office was recognized as one of the most efficient child support enforcement offices in the state of Kentucky.
Robert L. Fears has recently retired from Friend of the Court to focus more on his private law practice. He offers legal services in the following areas: family law (including divorce, child custody, child support, visitation
and adoptions), wills and estates, personal injury, Social Security/Disability, real estate, and DUI and traffic violations.
Robert L. Fears and his wife, Peggy Ann Fears, have been married for 43 years. They have 10 children and 36 grandchildren, including great-grandchildren. Aside from his dynamic career in the legal field, Robert L. Fears has also been an active participant and leader in the community. For over 15 years he served as Bishop and Stake President of the Hopkinsville Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In 1980, Mr. Fears purchased the 3,000 acre “Boddie” Farm, located in South Christian County, for the Mormon Church for $4.2 million. Mr. Fears managed the clearing of the land, the selling of the timber, and the overall development of the land into a productive row-crop farm. On behalf of the Church, Robert L. Fears entered into a contract with Steve and Wayne Hunt to operate the farm. The Hunts’ still operate the farm today. In 1986, Mr. Fears managed the construction of the large ecclesiastical church building located in the Great Oaks subdivision. The total cost of developing the lots and construction of the building was $3 million.
Mr. Fears has served on the Audubon Council of the Boy Scouts of America for more than twenty years. As a devoted supporter of the Boy Scout organization, Mr. Fears served as a Merit Badge Counselor and was a member of the Eagle Scout Review Board. He has also conducted numerous scout camps in the states of Florida and Kentucky. In 1981 and 1985, Mr. Fears was chaplain for the National Scout Jamboree in Ft. AP Hill in Virginia. Mr. Fears was the past president of the local Jaycees and the local Bar Association. Currently Robert L. Fears is the president of the local chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.
