In May of 1979, Mr. McNeill was admitted to the State Bar of California. He has served as a Deputy City Attorney for the City of Los Angeles and as Deputy District Attorney for the County of Los Angeles. He was appointed to the Los Angeles County Commission on Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs In 1993, and served four four-year terms on motion by the Honorable Yvonne B. Burke. Mr. McNeill served as a Deputy County Assessor from 1963 to 1977. He served as a member of the Los Angeles County Capital Case Fee Committee from 1993 to 1998 by appointment of the Supervising Judge of the Los Angeles Municipal Court. Mr. McNeill was appointed to the Board of Directors of the California Science Center in Exposition Park by California Governor Gray Davis in 2001 for a four-year term, ending in January 2005. He was elected by the Board of Directors to serve as a member of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Commission.

From 1991 to the present, Mr. McNeill guided the firm's Banking and Commercial litigation team.

Mr. McNeill has tried numerous jury trials during his legal career. He has successfully litigated matters in the areas of personal injury, medical malpractice, contract, business commercial disputes, real estate, criminal, and family law. His extensive trial experience has been in Federal and State Courts. He served as co-counsel in the successful litigation of a multimillion dollar health care class action lawsuit on behalf of insured men and women which settled in 1999, and has won multimillion dollar awards/settlements for Personal Injury clients. He successfully defended two death penalty cases in the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS:   

  • Mr. McNeill defended a dentist as co-counsel in the criminal courts and before the  Administrative Law Judge in a case charging the defendant with multiple felonies and  misdemeanors for child endangerment in the Los Angeles Superior Court, and successfully  obtained NOT GUILTY verdicts on all charges except for three charges dismissed by Judge  Lance Ito because the jury hung in favor of  NOT GUILTY verdict. He prevailed in the  administrative hearing, thus, saving the dentist's license to continue practicing in the  State of California.
  • Mr. McNeill defended, successfully, three death penalty cases, one of which he  obtained a NOT GUILTY verdict for a client who was charged with killing four people in the  city of Los Angeles. No client of Mr. McNeill's has ever received the death penalty, despite  all out efforts to impose said penalty by the Los Angeles County District Attorney. 
  • He has successfully defended a husband against a charge of murdering his wife with a  shotgun in the family den while they were both consuming alcohol and engaged in an argument.  The case was successfully defended at trial on the theory that it was an accidental  shooting. He successfully defended a female bus driver on a battered spouse syndrome theory  in a murder case where she shot her husband several times at close range in their home.  
  • He successfully defended a man on a charge of driving under the influence at a jury  trial where the officer and defendant testified and the jury found the defendant NOT GUILTY. 
  • In a criminal case in Federal Court, he won a dismissal at the conclusion of the  prosecution case to the jury. 
  • In another federal trial, Mr. McNeill successfully defended a man against the most  serious charges of money laundering and aiding and abetting in the distribution and sell of  PCP. 
  • Laparoscopic surgery.  Mr. McNeill secured the client an arbitration award in excess of  $5,000,000. 
  • He obtained successful settlements in several medical malpractice cases, resulting  from the failure to diagnose Cancer, failure to diagnose a broken neck, failure to insert a  stint during an angiogram, and failure to report diagnosis of pneumonia resulting in the  death of the client. 
  • Mr. McNeill has successfully tried real estate cases involving fraudulent real  estate transactions and obtained verdicts of hundreds of thousands of dollars in favor of  his clients. 
  • He has successfully defended a major bank against a claim of failure to correct and  warn of a dangerous condition of property and obtained a unanimous jury verdict in favor his  client. 
  • He successfully defended a major government entity in a medical malpractice case  involving a claims of negligent and intentional infliction of emotional distress resulting  from the delivery of decedent daughter's clothing, following an auto accident, to the  parents with bone and flesh fragments attached to the clothing. 
  • He has obtained numerous settlements amounting to several hundreds of thousands of  dollars for clients in Personal Injury cases involving slip and falls, auto collisions,  drownings, dog bites or attacks, and assault and battery.
