My Interest in criminal law is rooted in one thing -- my desire to help people. I grew up in Midland, Texas, where I received a bachelor's degree in criminology from the University of Texas. Later, I was awarded an academic scholarship to the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan, where I made the Dean's List and honor roll and received my law degree. After completing a comprehensive internship at the East Lansing, Michigan, firm of Bodwin & Fuzak, P.C., I worked as a civil contract attorney for Daffer McDaniel, LLP in Austin, Texas on a large class action lawsuit. Afterward, I served as a criminal and family law attorney at an established law firm in Georgetown, Texas. The latter experience found me defending clients on the wide spectrum of criminal law charges I address in my current independent practice. My success in this area included helping clients suffering from mental illness receive a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity. The tremendous experience and knowledge I gained in daily negotiations with local prosecutors and courts combined with my ongoing desire to help people protect their liberties in the face of criminal charges now drive everything I do in my own law office. Her professional achievements include being a recipient of the Dean’s Decision Award in 2001 and serving as Vice President of the Women’s African American Law Students Association. Additionally, she is an active member of the Texas Bar College and the State Bar of Texas Family Law Section for 2024-2025. Melissa’s passion for law stems from an early interest in justice—playing lawyer instead of school as a child and being inspired by her brothers’ legal careers. Outside of her legal work, Melissa is deeply committed to animal rights and volunteers with her church, Shoreline Church in North Tampa. A proud pet owner, she has a Pekingese dog named Mo’mani, affectionately called Mo’ for short. Melissa was born in Junction City, Missouri, and raised in Wichita Falls, Texas, before eventually moving to Houston. Lucy “Brandy” Bramlett is a family law attorney at the Law Office of Bryan Fagan, PLLC, serving clients from the firm’s Austin office. Meredythe is a fourth generation Austinite. She comes from a local insurance family going back three generations. Originally, her paternal grandfather was a well-known independent adjuster in the Austin area. Presently, her parents run their own, separate insurance agencies in the area. You could say it’s in her blood. After graduating from SMU Law, Meredythe started her legal career in Dallas working for a boutique commercial litigation firm before deciding to move home to be close to her family. Once home, she spent a decade of her legal career working on the insurance defense side of personal injury litigation learning how big insurance works against you. After years as a partner in a statewide defense firm, she got tired of fighting insurance adjusters who were more concerned with their bottom line than compensating those who are truly injured. Meredythe’s practice focuses primarily on personal injury litigation with an emphasis in the areas of car accidents, commercial vehicle collisions, trucking accidents, premises liability, traumatic brain injuries, wrongful death and survival claims, and catastrophic injury cases. Meredythe resides in Austin with her husband, Todd, and their adorable young son. When free time arises, she enjoys spending time at Austin’s various music venues, being outdoors, especially on the lake, trying out the ever evolving local fare, and spending time with her family.
