Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
Recently, I represented the Wife in a Hillsborough County military divorce matter. Many issues were at stake. We were successful at trial and the Wife was awarded, in part, alimony, an equitable distribution of all assets and liabilities, and a portion of Husband's military retirement benefits. We retained an expert witness to secure the correct amount of military retirement benefits. We were also successful in recovering Wife's portion of retroactive benefits that were owed to her.
How did you build a successful practice?
I started out my career as an Assistant State Attorney for the 10th Judicial Circuit, Florida. From there, I worked on the private sector for years practicing in the areas of criminal defense, family law, personal injury, and worker's compensation. In 2017, I opened up my own law firm and my firm now practices primarily in the areas of family law, criminal defense, and civil litigation. Any successful law practice should encompass several years of prior litigation/trial experience.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should look for an attorney that is competent, has handled trial work before, and is readily available to take client phone calls and inquiries. Constant communication is essential to an attorney-client relationship. You also need an attorney that is honest and practices law with integrity.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Several counties in Florida have local procedures and administrative orders unique to the locale. It is very important that an attorney is familiar with the local rules, procedures, and laws that govern the locale he or she is in. The attorney should also be knowledgeable of the various judicial preferences of the judges presiding in the attorney's circuit.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I always offer free phone consultations to my clients. We discuss the facts, the legal issues, and the possible ways to resolve the pending issues. The best strategy is to have a formulated plan from the onset.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
The only information that is needed for an initial phone consultation is the facts necessary to analyze the present legal issue. Any documentation which supports or sheds light on the legal issue at hand is also a plus.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I take the time to listen to my clients. I am very compassionate and dedicated to every case. My firm also affords clients with very reasonable payment plans.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
In the context of family law cases, I truly enjoy helping families resolve their family law issues. The protection of children is often of utmost interest. I also help those who are the victims of domestic violence as well as represent those accused of committing violence. In the context of criminal cases, I protect the liberties of my client while providing them with the best defense available.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I am married and have 4 children. As a family, we enjoy traveling, hiking, and biking. We are also proud supporters of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Are you involved in your community?
I am very involved in the community. I have volunteered for United Way for several years and often assist with helping the homeless, elderly, and developmentally disabled. I also support persons running for local office.
