About Samuel

An AV-rated attorney who has practiced in the field of intellectual property for more than ten years, Mr. Lewis draws inspiration from a wide-range of personal experiences to realize creative and innovative solutions for his clients.  Drawing from former careers as a photojournalist and computer software developer, Mr. Lewis brings both a practical understanding and technical perspective of copyright- and technology-related issues.

Prior to practicing law, Mr. Lewis worked as a photojournalist covering a variety of news and sporting events, including more than a dozen NCAA Bowl Games, a variety of personalities ranging from the late Rosa Parks to Dr. Ruth Westheimer, three Florida governors and the President of the United States.  Prior to practicing law, Mr. Lewis also designed and developed software for major corporate and institutional computer systems.  One to commonly think outside of the box, Mr. Lewis most recently headed up a development team implementing client-server software solutions for customers who needed real-world solutions for modernizing their businesses.   These experiences provided both a thorough understanding of the business- and technology-related issues that his clients face, as well as a foundation for a strong interest in intellectual property and computer law.

Mr. Lewis handles both litigation and transactional matters, and represents a wide variety of clients with technology- and intellectual-property-related issues. In addition, he has served as outside general counsel for corporate clients.  Working closely with corporate clients, Mr. Lewis assists his clients by guiding their IP-protection strategies before rights are lost, by assisting with the enforcement of those rights, and by helping to reduce potential exposure to lawsuits.

In addition to assisting his clients, Mr. Lewis also devotes time to the legal community.  He frequently lectures and has authored numerous articles relating to technology and intellectual property law.  As a writer, Mr. Lewis is a frequent contributor to The Daily Business Review's Law & Technology column.  For seven years, he served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Shepard Broard Law Center, Nova Southeastern University, teaching Computer Law.  Mr. Lewis has also been active in the Florida Bar.  A past chairman of the Florida Bar's Computer Law Committee, Mr. Lewis' involvement with that Committee allowed him to help shape legislation relating to computers and technology.
