Santiago Lavandera, Esq.
Santiago concentrates his practice in the areas of criminal law and personal injury, which includes all types of accidents and slip and falls, as well as medical and/or professional malpractice. He is a member of the Florida Bar Criminal Lawyers section, Civil Trial Lawyers section, and Young Lawyers section. He is a voting member of the Florida Justice Academy (formerly the Florida Trial Lawyers Association) and a member of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
Santiago has been a member of the South Florida community for nearly 30 years. He attended Florida International University, where he graduated with honors, and went on to attend the University of Miami School of Law, from which he also graduated with honors. While at the University of Miami, he served as an Article and Comment Editor for the Entertainment and Sports Law Review.
Prior to teaming with Nelson to form this firm, Santiago worked at the office of the Public Defender in Miami, where he successfully defended hundreds of individuals charged with felony, misdemeanor, and DUI offenses. He then worked as an associate at a Coral Gables insurance defense firm, where he defended national insurance companies against a large assortment of claims including, auto accidents, wrongful death, slip and falls, and professional/medical malpractice.
This civil law experience combined with the prior experience in criminal matters provides an excellent foundation for meeting the needs of clients who have been charged with a crime, or those clients who seek compensation for the injuries caused by the negligence of another. Santiago is admitted to the practice of law in the state courts throughout the State of Florida, and in the Federal District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
