From 1996-2006 Scott King served as Mayor of Gary, Indiana, the Chief Executive Officer for government services for a population of more than 100,000 residents, the largest city in northwest Indiana, and oversight of an annual budget of approximately 100 million dollars and approximately 1,200 employees in a variety of disciplines.
In addition, during this period he served as Special Administrator of the Gary Sanitary District, a wastewater treatment facility serving three other municipalities in addition to the City of Gary. Other responsibilities included service on an array of regional boards including workforce development, metropolitan planning, solid waste processing and reduction, and others. This position also entailed substantial work with an array of federal, state and other local government branches, offices and other entities including the Gary/Chicago Regional Airport as well as significant and frequent media responsibilities.
