Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
Murder case, I completed an exhaustive investigation on the complainant to show that he was a violent and aggressive person. I uncovered several uncharged cases against him to show that he was a continued threat up until his death. I proved my client's self defense and showed via other witnesses that he was under an immediate attack from the complainant. After many negotiations with the District Attorney and subpoenaing several witnesses, the DA agreed to dismiss the case all together. My client was relieved and thrilled!
How did you build a successful practice?
I built my practice by hard work and being able to show my successes by keeping a folder of dismissals, etc. My former clients continue to refer me to new clients just based on my honesty and hard work.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should want an attorney that is honest and straight forward with them. Clients should want an attorney that gives them ALL of the information and ALL of their options and consequences so they can make informed decisions. Attorneys should educate their clients as much as possible so they can actively be involved in their on defense.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge can be important but nothing beats a prepared attorney.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
In a phone consultation, we can only estimate what is possible. We can only guarantee a full investigation and complete disclosure of all of the issues at that time. No one can guess the future but we can get some idea of what is possible. A true evaluation requires review of ALL of the evidence to include the evidence from the DA. Clients can also expect to know what it would takes financially to start representation. Any trial fees quoted are just estimates until a full review of the evidence, which typically can be done after the first court date.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
Primarily I need the client's name and date of birth. What the charge is and what court? I also listen to what happened and what led up to their arrest (in an effort to pursue probable cause issues)
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I believe in educating my client on ALL possible defenses and their consequences. So many people say that there were things that their attorney never told them. I keep my clients informed on all things that are related to their defense and the consequences if they take a plea or if they go to trial.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Seeing that justice is done for my clients. Nothing is more rewarding than working on a case and convincing the DA that it should be dismissed. The next best thing is a jury trial and getting an acquittal.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I volunteer and speak at schools.
Are you involved in your community?
Yes, I volunteer regularly for the YWCA, other non-profit organizations, I work voter's registration and speak at various locations in the community.
