About Tad

Tad attended college at UCLA and law school at Hastings College of the Law, receiving his JD In 1980. After passing the bar exam, Tad worked for a small nationally recognized plaintiff's firm which specialized in aviation law. He joined his father Everett and Dan Galvin in the practice in Santa Rosa in 1982. Since then he has worked on behalf of individuals and families who have lost loved ones or have been seriously injured in automobile, truck and motorcycle collisions, construction site accidents, cases involving defective roadways, dangerous conditions of premises and defective products. Tad prides himself in preparing every case as if it will go to trial. He has been able to achieve substantial results for his clients, having obtained some of the largest personal injury and wrongful death awards and settlements in Northern California. Like all members of the firm, Tad has been active in legal and community organizations. He has served on the boards of non profit organizations including Sonoma County Legal Services Foundation and the Sonoma County YMCA. He has been an active member of CAOC, AAJ and has been president of the local chapter of CAOC, then known as Redwood Empire Trial Lawyers. He was an adjunct professor in the Sonoma State University paralegal program, teaching evidence and civil discovery for many years. He is a frequent speaker at continuing education seminars in the areas of civil discovery, law and motion practice, trial practice and mediation. In the last five years, Tad has been asked to mediate and arbitrate cases, often being selected by attorneys and insurance carriers he has been opposite in his practice. While he enjoys this change of pace, he still prefers to represent his clients in their cases. Tad has been recognized by his peers, having recently been selected as one of the top 500 plaintiff attorneys in the United States by Lawdragon, a national publication. He was also selected as a Northern California Super Lawyer by San Francisco magazine from 2005 -2012. This honor is limited to 5% of all attorneys in Northern California. He is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell, the highest rating for both professional ability and ethics. He has been recognized by the Sonoma County Courts for his work as a Pro Tem Judge presiding over jury trials and as a settlement conference panelist. He is a member of the Richard M. Sangster Inns of Court. Tad is also a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, an invitation-only trial lawyer organization made up of 3000 fellows nationwide. Tad handles the majority of the personal injury litigation in the firm. For more information on this practice see our personal injury page.

Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

We recently handled a case involving an attack by an itinerant on our client, an unsuspecting customer, at a movie theatre. We showed the theatre's policies re: letting people in without tickets to purchase concessions and security were inadequate and recovered a substantial sum for our client, who fortunately made a good recovery from life threatening stab wounds. The theatre made multiple changes to make it less likely an incident like this could happen again.

How did you build a successful practice?

Working hard for our clients, aggressively putting their interests first, and preparing every case as if it will go to trial.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Experience, case results and reputation are important, but a client needs to make a connection with the attorney. They will be working together for a long time and might be sitting at trial together for weeks.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

We know the local businesses and community issues. We are familiar faces at the courthouse with very good reputations. We've been here for 50+ years and know a large cross section of the community. Local knowledge can make a big difference

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

A basic outline of how the case will go, and what the issues are going to be. How we will work together.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

Basic facts and information about injuries, insurance information and potential client's background.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

We often see issues and arguments that others don't. We are very good at helping our clients get through the difficulties in recovering from their injuries and navigating and understanding the litigation process

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

The connection we make with our clients and the difference we can make in their lives.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

Family time. Travel. Reading. Golf.

Are you involved in your community?

Yes. We are involved as board members of local non profits, City commissions, the boards of local schools and law schools among others.
