About Sidney
Sid Lachter was born, raised and educated in Winnipeg, Canada. He graduated eighth in his class at the University of Manitoba Law School in 1964 and was admitted to the Manitoba Bar in December of that year. He practiced law in Manitoba from then until 1979.
During those years, Sid was active in his profession and his community. He was a Bencher of The Law Society of Manitoba, a member of the National Council of The Canadian Bar Association and served as Secretary and then Treasurer of the association's Manitoba branch. He was a member of the town council in Neepawa, Manitoba, and a candidate in the 1972 Canadian federal election and the 1977 Manitoba provincial election.
In February, 1979, Sid moved to Phoenix to pursue business interests. With the help of a very capable immigration attorney in Phoenix, he and his family obtained green cards through labor certification.
In 1983, Sid started practicing law in Phoenix. In the process, he established a precedent in becoming the first foreign law school graduate ever allowed to take the Arizona bar exam without at least one year of postgraduate studies at an accredited US law school. He passed the bar exam on his first attempt and has practiced in the Phoenix area ever since.
In June, 2002, Sid added an office in Tucson. With excellent staff support, he is able to divide his time between his two offices and serve clients in both cities.
He also has clients in other cities around the country and around the world. He has represented, to cite just three examples, a European client in obtaining an H-1B (specialized knowledge) visa to work in Dallas, Texas, another European client in obtaining an E-2 (investor) visa based on a substantial investment in a business in California, and a Canadian client in obtaining an H-1B visa to work in Portland, Oregon. He has never met these clients but is able to look after their needs with the use of modern technology.
Sid is active in, and a former board member of, the Immigration Law section of the State Bar of Arizona. He is also active in the Arizona chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
For more information or a consultation please contact Sid by phone, regular mail, e-mail or fax.
