Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I had a recent case in which a client suffered an abdominal hernia from the force of being restrained by the seatbelt and possibly by hitting her abdomen on the steering wheel upon impact. After having an MRI of abdomen performed many months after the incident, obtaining an experts written opinion of the cause of the injury and finding medical journal articles supporting the reasons that the hernia was not discovered at the emergency room on the day of the accident, we were able to settle at mediation for an amount the client did not anticipate in her wildest dreams. She was able to get the repair surgery done and have money for the pain and suffering she experienced.
How did you build a successful practice?
I have built a successful personal injury practice by showing personal attention to each of my clients, being available, keeping each client up-to-date on the status of their case at each step. I also do everything I can to maximize the value of my clients' cases including fighting reimbursement from providers after the case is resolved (most of which the client wouldn't have thought existed or was a threat to their recovery). This has led to trust and referrals.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should look for honesty and openness about the personal injury matter, direct personal attention by the attorney throughout the case (not just at the beginning), genuine concern for the client's health and recovery rather than the attorney's monetary return on his/her efforts. Of course, experience and the drive to get the job done for the client is a must.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge of quality medical providers, medical providers that can provide services with alternative means of payment when medical insurance is not available is extremely important to helping the client with his/her first priority - getting better. Local knowledge of how to obtain information, good investigators, the government agencies, how each county operates, and how the make-up of each counties' residents can effect the outcome of a lawsuit and how that can be used during settlement negotiations is no less important. Even knowing which auto body shops provide quality service and understand the insurance process can provide my clients with superior results.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
When a potential client calls for a free phone consultation, I can give them an immediate taste of why my past client's have been very happy with my representation and how they would be treated if they choose me to represent them. I can, among many other pieces of information, quickly provide them with the do's and don'ts immediately after an accident, how to preserve their claim with the insurance companies, what evidence to preserve before it disappears, the pitfalls to avoid in obtaining consistent medical treatment for their injuries, how to obtain their police report and many other tidbits that can make their claim a smoother process.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
When a potential client calls for a free phone consultation, I would want to know, first and foremost their physical condition and if they have sought medical attention. Once that is addressed, I would want to know the location of the accident, the details of the accident, were the police on the scene, which department was it and which drivers received citations. Was the fire department and EMS on the scene. I would want to know if they took pictures of the scene of the incident (especially in slip and fall cases), whether a report was made to a manager of the property, if applicable, and if their were witnesses and if their contact information was obtained. I would want to know if the caller's auto was towed and to where and where the other car was towed, the names of the tow yards, the names of the other drivers, and their insurance companies. This would be a good start.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
Though there are many attorneys practicing in the personal injury area of the law in the Atlanta area, I feel my personal attention and consistent contact with my client's throughout their case, as well as, a genuine concern for their well-being rather than a money ticket. I also feel that my willingness to leave no stone unturned in maximizing my clients' return on their claim is a key factor in what makes me different. Most personal injury clients would not know about many ways that their attorney can increase their return and which efforts by the attorney provide no additional benefit to that attorney and are not a legal obligation of the attorney.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the smile on my client's face when they happy with the results of my efforts in representing them. That I have put forth an effort which was no less than what I would do for myself.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
My interests outside the law seem to always center on saving the animals.
