$375,000 Settlement
On November 14, 2014, a 49-year-old social worker Mr. Q. was involved in a car accident, where he was T-boned from the left side. Defendant eventually had to admit his fault for the happening of the accident, but the real problem, in this case, was Mr. Q’s damages. As a result of his accident he had right shoulder surgery, however, at the examination before trial, being represented by another firm, Mr. Q was confused and said that the problems with the surgery stemmed from the sports injury several years before the accident. The only other injuries were minor bumps to his back. If that was not enough, Mr. Q was involved in a subsequent car accident, where he again injured his back. The biggest challenge, in this case, was to prove that it was possible for Mr. Q to injure his right shoulder in a collision where he was hit from the left. The case was marked as a “no-pay” by the insurance company, hence we had to go to trial. The jury liked Mr. Q and awarded him $375,000.
$110,000 Settlement
On 05/07/2015 a 54-year-old unemployed lady was injured in a car accident. She was a passenger in a taxi on her way to church in the Bronx. As a result of the accident, the lady sustained a fracture of 3 ribs. After 5 years of vigorous litigation, we were able to secure a settlement of $110,000 seconds before jury selection.
$199,000 Settlement
Ms. RN was driving down one of the Brooklyn highways, when her car collided with a FedEx truck, which, according to Ms. RN was moving parallel to her, entered her lane of traffic and hit her to the driver’s side. It was obvious that the driver of the truck was prepared to say that it was Ms. RN who entered his lane and caused the accident. Ms. RN sustained injuries to her shoulder and knee and underwent knee surgery. Under the circumstances, we decided to mediate the case with a special mediator who came all the way from Pittsburg. We wanted Ms. RN to be present at the mediation negotiations so that she is fully aware of what was going on. The initial offer we received was $25,000, which almost brought Ms. RN to tears as she was upset and disappointed. After 3 hours of negotiations, we were able to secure a settlement of $199,000 to the great relief of Ms. RN.
