Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
In the Special Needs field, I have assisted numerous children obtain the education they deserve. I have prevented School Districts from placing these children in the corner and ignoring them. I have made sure that the School Districts give Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and other therapies both in and outside of school. I have been able to have the District pay for the child to go to Summer Camp, on the school's budget, as well as have children removed from the District when they are unable to properly provide for the child.
How did you build a successful practice?
My success is primarily due to word of mouth and honesty. I tell it like it is, and do not make promises that I can not keep. I have a very mean streak when it comes to opposition, and I PROTECT MY CLIENTS LIKE A PIT BULL.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should look for an attorney who actually will meet with them, take their calls or emails and get back to them within a reasonable time (usually 24 hours during week and 72 hours on weekends). Also, can that attorney look you in the eye and tell you the truth.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is important in knowing the Chapter 13 Field because the Standing Trustee in Trenton handles matters differently than the Standing Trustee in Newark. Also, there is/are Local Rules (Published) and then there are unwritten LOCAL Rules that only people who regularly practice know.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
The consultation depends on whether it pertains to Bankruptcy or Special Needs. If Bankruptcy, I try to figure out the bottom line for the client: Are the debts eligible for discharge, should they be in a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 or 11. If Special Needs, the details vary on a case by case basis.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
Clients and potential clients need to be patient and be honest. I cannot give good advice if have tainted facts or figures.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I have been doing this for over 20 years. In the Special Needs field, I am very different as I have a Special Needs Child, so I have a unique perspective and understanding. In Bankruptcy, I am a fighter, and have taught this (how to draft and fight) through the Bankruptcy Inns of Court where I was the Chairperson of the Consumer Division for 3 years. I was required to be able to teach each and every component of the 30 week course, so my knowledge is vast on the subject.br>
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
I love when the Special Needs child succeeds or does well in the program we created. I have developed some wonderful relationships with families and still hear from them, and run into them, and they remember me and are doing well. In Bankruptcy, I have had many clients come back just to say ""hey thanks, you were right and we are back on financial track and getting credit back if we want it"".
What are your other interests in addition to law?
Golf, and collecting certain things (Baseball Cards, Warner Brother Cells, Shotglasses)
Are you involved in your community?
I am very involved with my Temple, and I am the General Counsel for the Veterans Chamber of Commerce-NJ, which I do pro bono.
