About Tahira

Tahira Khan Merritt has practiced law for almost two decades. She received her undergraduate degree with honors from the University of Texas at Austin. She earned her law degree in November 1988 from Baylor Law School in Waco, Texas, which is nationally recognized for its trial advocacy program.

During her career, Ms. Merritt has worked for prominent law firms in Dallas, as well as serving as an assistant attorney general for the State of Texas. As a trial lawyer, she has tried to verdict well over twenty cases, including assisting in achieving the largest jury award ever given in a clergy sexual abuse case, John Doe I et. alia vs. Roman Catholic Diocese of Dallas and Rudolph Kos.

Tahira Khan Merritt's own law firm has served clients in Texas since 1996. Her practice is dedicated to the very challenging area of law that addresses institutional negligence involving sexual abuse of children. She also continues to serve as a court- appointed guardian ad litem for injured children in Dallas County, which, as a parent, she finds especially fulfilling.

Mrs. Merritt is a member in good standing of the Dallas Trial Lawyers Association, Dallas Women Lawyers Association, Dallas Asian-American Bar, American Association for Justice, and the National Crime Victims Bar Association.
