About Tara
Tara M. Kelly, Principal
Tara M. Kelly is a founder and principal of the k + m law group located in Falls Church. Tara has a diversified client base and specializes in criminal defense, family law, and civil and business litigation.
Before founding k + m law group, Tara worked in a large corporate litigation firm, specializing in complex civil litigation. While the firm specialized in insurance recovery for corporations and individuals, Tara was involved in a wide range of commercial litigation involving qui tam (government fraud) actions, bankruptcy, consumer protection, class action, insurance litigation and arbitration, and fraud actions with both banks and consumers as clients. While she was with her previous firm, Tara had experience running several consumer protection class actions against large corporations. She has written a number of appellate briefs, including an amici curia brief filed with the United States Supreme Court. Finally, Tara has extensive experience in criminal law matters.
Prior to working in a large, nationally recognized law firm, Tara spent two years clerking for judges on the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. During that time, Tara extensively researched and wrote on several areas of law including administrative, criminal, family, and corporate litigation.
Prior to engaging in the practice of law, Tara studied at the University of Kansas where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts. Following her undergraduate studies, Tara attended the Washington College of Law at American University, graduating with honors. While in law school, Tara founded the Mock Trial Honor Society and actively participated in the Moot Court Honor Society and the Administrative Law Review.
In her free time, Tara coaches for the nationally ranked Mock Trial Honor Society at the Washington College of Law where her teams have an unparalleled record of success. Tara lives in Fairfax Station with her husband, dog, and cats and spends basketball season rooting for her KU Jayhawks.
