Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I was hired in an insurance coverage dispute where there was a judgment for several million dollars. Several lawyers had turned the plaintiff's case down thinking there was no coverage. I took the case and was able to convince a judge that the policy did provide coverage.
How did you build a successful practice?
Being a strong advocate for my clients while at the same time being a reliable and honest resource for my clients.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
People should look for (a) a lawyer that is successful and has an established practice and experience in the area of law for which they need a lawyer; (b) a lawyer that will listen to them and talk to them and not over them or at them; (c) a lawyer that will be responsive to the client; (d) a lawyer that will move the matter forward at a reasonable pace.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
It is very important to have a lawyer that knows and understands the lay of the land in the community and at the courthouse.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
Usually during an initial consultation, whether over the phone or in person, I can provide a lot of information that helps the person understand their rights and how the legal process works so after leaving the conversation the person is much more comfortable about their knowledge level.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
I generally prefer to have the basics in an initial conversation: who, what, where, why and when. It is also helpful to have any insurance information, police reports, photos or other things that may help me better understand the situation.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I have been practicing law and litigating accident and injury cases in central Missouri for about 25 years. I always have time to speak with my clients and answer their questions or address their concerns. I believe that when I am representing a client, I am for the purposes of that client's matter, essentially in a partnership with the client.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Getting clients results that I know they would not have been able to get without my involvement.
