Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

National client had consulted with a regional cpa firm and they had structured a deal they thought would be favorable. They involved me to paper the acquisition. Once I mapped out the actual tax impact, the client realized they would incur a substantial tax liability. I took a step back and viewed the impact of the entire transaction, only to realize the actual impact.

How did you build a successful practice?

Pragmatic solution oriented and focusing on what is really in the client's best interest and what is the most economically feasible approach. I am very careful to not assume cases if I believe someone else can better serve the client. My approach is to avoid litigation because everyone looses in litigation and protecting yourself legally maybe a very small component when you consider all of the variables.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Some one who has different perspectives. Often framing the deal of situation is critically important if not more important than the actual legal documents. Ensuring a holistic approach to solving the client's needs or issues and considering long term impact to the client, relative to the client's business and legal objectives.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

The local knowledge often plays a critical role. This is why I have referred out numerous cases if I believed the client would be better served having local representation.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

I try to understand the issues, and if I am the best person to service this client. I also try to guide the client in terms of what information they need in order to help themselves.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

[saves both parties time]A potential client should try and leave so much unnecessary detail out and be concise and to the point. If the attorney needs additional information they will ask for it.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I have been an attorney for over 19 years and have worked in both the public sector ands private sector. The experience and knowledge I have received can be extremely insightful and offer a differing perspective.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Helping people and knowing I made a difference
