As the firm's former managing partner, Woody Stewart is a man of exceptional vision. It is through his management and leadership that the success of Stewart, Melvin & Frost has been shaped. Mr. Stewart joined the firm in 1966 and enjoys a regional reputation for his outstanding work in federal IRS tax audit controversies and estate planning. He is a skilled advocate and has extensive training and experience as a negotiator.

Mr. Stewart has long been involved with banking, having served as a director of First National Bank of Gainesville, First National Bancorp and Regions Financial Corporation from 1979–2006.

He is also deeply committed to the community he calls home. Using his superb leadership skills, Mr. Stewart has been active in numerous civic and community organizations. He has served as chairman of the Greater Hall County Chamber of Commerce, president of Kiwanis Club, chairman of the Gainesville Board of Education and currently serves as the Chair of the Medical Center Foundation and board member of Northeast Georgia Health Systems, Inc. His dedication has not gone without notice. He has been named to Leadership Georgia and recognized as Hall County Young Man of the Year in 1971 and Rotary Man of the Year in 1989. Mr. Stewart is also active in his church, having taught Sunday School and served on the vestry of Grace Episcopal Church.

A 1960 graduate of Furman University, Mr. Stewart earned his law degree from Tulane University School of Law in 1966. He also holds a masters degree in taxation from Emory University. Prior to entering law school, Mr. Stewart served three years as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
