Danny Cornell became a lawyer for one reason: to stand up and protect those who need his help the most. He has been doing just that for the past 25 years in his capacity as a personal injury lawyer serving the following areas in Southeast Iowa: Mt. Pleasant Burlington Fairfield Washington Ottumwa Danny works tirelessly to restore, recover, and enforce his clients' rights. Having practiced law for over two decades, he has seen how drastically an injury can impact the victim's lives and their loved ones. He is proud to serve as their voice in the courtroom and dedicated to obtaining the compensation that will help them move forward. Experience is no substitute for hard work. Danny commits significant time and energy in every case the firm takes on. He understands the emotional and financial strain placed on families when an accident occurs and fights on their behalf as if he were fighting for his own brother or sister. When Danny starts working with a client, their needs come first. While many of his relationships start as business acquaintances, over time, as he goes through their struggles with them, he and his clients become close friends. When presenting a case before a jury trial, this connection is invaluable. No one can tell your story better in a legal context than an attorney who has come to truly empathize with it. Lawyer.com Member Questionnaire Please describe a case(s) in the last year or two where you made a big difference. I just finished a case with a big recovery on behalf of a sweet middle age lady who was injured at an apartment building. I am very proud of the result, first, because she is so sweet and second because several other lawyers had told her that it was a case that they could not win. Nothing brings me as much pleasure as handing someone like that a big check from the insurance company. How did you build a successful practice? Hard work, period. You have to treat each client like you would want to be treated. What should clients look for in a lawyer? You should look for a lawyer who is smart, hard-working, and cares enough to fight for you. A lawyer who is brutally honest and is a bull-dog. How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases? It helps but a good lawyer can get it from actively engaging with his clients, their family, and friends. A good lawyer will find the best witnesses and spend time with them so he can really understand his clients and their loss. Every case has a story and it's the lawyer's job to understand it then tell it effectively to the jury. What information can you provide in a free phone consultation? The most important thing for a good lawyer to do is to LISTEN. Once he listens, he can ask important questions aimed at discovering whether or not he can help the human being speaking to him. It's important that the lawyer understands that the folks he is talking to are in pain and have been wronged. Again, ask yourself, how would you feel if someone had done this to you or your family. What information do you need in a free phone consultation? Honestly, every case is different. It is not a one size fits all conversation. Some times, several consultations are needed to determine the best course. What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community? It would be better to ask my clients this question. I have 25+ years of fighting for the rights of the injured. I work hard to get my clients the BEST outcome possible. I treat them how I would want to be treated if I was in their shoes. This is a great responsibility because they have had their lives turned upside down by no fault of their own or natural decline but due to negligence. What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? Fighting for the underdog. A person against a billion-dollar insurance company has no shot. Talk about David versus Goliath. The best part of my job is winning that fight. It never gets old and it's never routine, I revel in it! Are you involved in your community? Yes, I have served and do serve my community in a number of ways. I served in the US ARMY in Desert Storm. I have been an Iowa Mayor. I serve as an Officer on the County Compensation Board. I have served on the Board of Directors for the Iowa Association for Justice for more than 20 years.
