About Wendy
Wendy currently splits her time between the firm's California offices with clients throughout California and takes both a strategic and supervisory role on her legal cases. At the firm, she is also actively spearheading the development of innovative legal seminars and applications on estate planning and asset protection and has been invited to speak by a number of local groups and organizations, such as the Rancho Santa Fe Senior Center, Filipino-American Military Officers’ Association, AIG Insurance, Lucia Capital and The Nativity Church.
From 2000 to 2010, in addition to the practice of law, Wendy has been a small business entrepreneur co-owning an innovative applied research company for primarily government customers. On the creative side, she is also an award-winning filmmaker and screenwriter, as her first feature film, Blood on Canvas, which she co-wrote and co-produced based on an actual legal case she worked on, recently won Best Feature at the Michigan Film Awards / Detroit Independent Film Festival, Best in Show at the International Television Festival, Golden Ace Award at the Las Vegas Film Festival and Best Thriller at the Honolulu Film Awards and will be available in 2017 on Amazon Prime, Netflix, iTunes and Redbox.
Wendy previously worked as a corporate attorney in the Silicon Valley offices of Venture Law Group and Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich (now DLA Piper) where she represented high tech and e-commerce companies, underwriters and venture capitalists in a variety of corporate transactions. Prior to that, she worked in the LA entertainment industry representing talent, such as actors, screenwriters and producers in licensing and production deals.
Wendy earned both a B.A. and M.A., magna cum laude, in political science and international relations from Yale University where she was awarded the Distinction Prize in Political Science. She was 1 of only 20 students in her class of 5,000 undergraduates who was accepted in and completed dual Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees to graduate with both degrees in 4 years. She then earned a M.ST. in Modern History from Oxford University, England, as a Rotary Scholar. She also earned a J.D. from the Harvard Law School, where she served as editors for the International Law Journal and the Environmental Law Review and was a co-author of an article titled “Jurisdiction, Venue and Choice of Law in Cyber-Defamation Cases” for the New York Intellectual Property Journal & Symposium in the early stages of the internet. While in law school, Wendy was also a Harvard College proctor and teaching fellow in Government when she was awarded the Derek C. Bok Award for Excellence in Teaching at Harvard.
Wendy, with parents originally from the Philippines, has always been an avid traveler who has lived several years in Spain, Italy, Germany and England and has traveled to diverse countries and places in Europe, Africa, Asia, Middle East, Caribbean and South America. She is proficient in both Spanish and Italian with a working knowledge of Tagalog. During her gap year after grad school, she spent a year traveling around the world. Her other interests include creative writing, reading, current events, politics, music, film and the arts, sports, entertaining and spending time with friends and family, especially her husband, Brian, and two sons, Jack and Tyler Joseph (TJ).
Wendy is especially committed to “giving back.” Currently, she is on the Board of the Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary-Del Mar and the Advisory Board of the La Costa Film Festival. She is also a second grade Catechist at The Nativity Church for its Sunday school and volunteers extensively at her children’s schools in Rancho Santa Fe. Wendy is extremely proud of her Filipino-American heritage and to name a few notable accomplishments in promoting her heritage, co-founded Kasama, the Filipino-American student organization at Yale; co-founded the Filipino Inter-Networking Dialogue for Ivy League FilAm students; and advocated for Filipina OFWs in domestic violence cases for Oxfam in England. As a working mom, she currently takes a more educational role of cultural activism by leading the 2015 Community Cultural Day at The Nativity School & Parish which showcased the best of the arts, traditions and culture of the Philippines.
