About Wilbur

A native of Fort Myers, Wilbur C. Smith III was born July 19th, 1945. He graduated from the University of Florida with his B.S. in Economics in 1967. He earned his J.D. from the University of Florida in 1970 and was admitted to the Florida Bar in the same year. After completing his education, he founded the Wilbur Smith Law Firm. He is admitted to practice in the following courts:

  • U.S. Supreme Court (1982)
  • Florida Supreme Court (1970)
  • U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida (1972)
  • U.S. Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit (1981)

Mr. Smith has long served in local government, where he stood for election five times and retired undefeated. He served his first eight years as a Councilman of the City of Fort Myers (1980 to 1988), and then as Mayor of the City of Fort Myers for another eight years (1988 to 1996). He has continued to serve the community through his memberships and leadership positions in the following organizations:
