About Will

William Lucius focuses his practice on elder law, estate planning, nursing home placement and benefit issues, guardianships, public benefits, as well as representing children and adults with special needs and disabilities. As an accredited attorney with the Department of Veteran Affairs, Attorney Lucius is able to competently assist his clients with issues facing Veterans as well. Will is admitted to the State Bars of Michigan and Wisconsin, while in the process of obtaining his license for the Ontario Province of Canada.
          
Graduating with honors from Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Florida, Will began his legal career focused on elder law, having obtained a Certificate of Concentration in elder law with his Juris Doctor. Stetson University is one of the only law schools in the nation to confer specialized concentration certificates to students invited to the program who excel in the required elective curriculum. At graduation, Will was the recipient of the 2008 Matthew Bender Elder Law Award.
          
Will began his career in 2008 as an attorney with the Paul A. Sturgul Law Office in Hurley, Wisconsin, representing seniors and individuals with disabilities. Will has taken his love of this practice area to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan where he has established the Lucius Law Office, PLLC.
          
Will is active both at the state and national level within the field of elder law. He is on the board of directors for Elder Law of Michigan, Inc. a Michigan nonprofit charitable organization providing legal services and advocacy to seniors and individuals with disabilities. He is also on the board of directors of WisPACT, Inc. a Wisconsin nonprofit organization that administers special needs and pooled trusts. Further, Will is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) and has served on several steering committees within the Academy. Will is on the board of the Michigan chapter of NAELA, and is a member of the Wisconsin chapter. Will is also on the governing council of the Elder Law and Disability Rights Section of the Michigan State Bar.
         
Apart from his legal practice Will is active in the community and governmental organizations. Will is the past president of the Ironwood-Hurley Rotary Club, and is a Paul Harris Fellow. He has served on the board of directors for the Gogebic County Department of Human Services, and is on the board of directors of the Range Health Foundation of Aspirus Grand View Hospital. Will is also on the bio-ethics committee at Memorial Medical Center in Ashland, Wisconsin.
         
With a strong sense of civic engagement, Will has served as a City Commissioner for the City of Ironwood, and was a primary candidate for Michigan’s House District 110. He has been involved with several committees of the Michigan Municipal League as well.
         
Will was born and raised in Lakeland, Florida, home of the Detroit Tigers spring training camp. From there he graduated from Elmira College in Elmira, New York with degrees in Political Science and Philosophy/Religious Studies. At Elmira College he met his wife, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and they have two children.
