About William
Mr. Doerler is an associate in the Litigation Department's Appellate Practice Group. As part of the Appellate Practice Group, he has successfully briefed and argued cases addressing a wide variety of issues, including medical malpractice, personal injury, and worker's compensation. In his role as an appellate advocate, Mr. Doerler routinely represents clients in state and federal appellate courts in Delaware, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. In addition to his appellate practice, he provides assistance in complex litigation situations, focusing on pre-trial and post-trial motions, as well as analysis related to the preservation of issues for appeal. Mr. Doerler's recent cases addressing complex trial issues have focused on federal preemption, Daubert/Frye standards, insurance coverage, and professional malpractice. Prior to joining the Appellate Practice Group, Mr. Doerler worked for seven years as a trial litigator.
In recognition of their expertise in appellate practice, members of the Appellate Practice Group are frequently asked to file amicus briefs on behalf of various organizations in cases having wide-ranging importance. Mr. Doerler recently worked on an amicus brief for the Pennsylvania Defense Institute in an asbestos litigation case pending before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
Mr. Doerler received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Widener University School of Law in 1997. While in law school, he pursued his interest in appellate practice by serving as a law clerk to Chief Justice E. Norman Veasey of the Supreme Court of Delaware through the Wolcott Fellowship program. Mr. Doerler received his B.S. in Accounting from the University of Delaware in 1983. He is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey. He is also admitted to practice in local federal district courts and the Third Circuit. Mr. Doerler is co-editor of the Appellate Practice Group's weekly e-newsletter, Court Crier.
