Larkin Farrell, LLC

About William

William R. Larkin, III ("Bill") and Joseph P. Farrell, III ("Joe") built their careers together at a mid-sized firm with a high volume litigation practice. Joe started at the firm in December 2001 and Bill followed shortly thereafter in April 2003. Both were promoted to Partner in 2008. Bill had the privilege of running the day-to-day operations of the firm as Managing Partner while Joe was the lead trial attorney and Manager of the arbitration and appeals departments. They represented large insurance companies, government agencies, and private clients in thousands of lawsuits over the course of 15+ years before leaving the firm to form Larkin Farrell, LLC. At Larkin Farrell, LLC we refer to ourselves as a "team" throughout our website and sales materials because it is important to us that we convey to our clients, and potential clients, the collaborative nature of the way we handle each file we are assigned. We, as a firm, do not assign a file and forget about it. We collaborate and strategize every step of the way. We are committed to surrounding ourselves with individuals who think outside-the-box and who can contribute to the success of the firm on multiple levels. We are committed to our clients and work together to solve their legal problems in the best, most cost-effective way. Below are the profiles of the individuals that make up the Larkin Farrell team.

Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

There are so many to choose from it is hard to narrow it down to a limited number of cases. In our personal injury practice we help individuals get the compensation they deserve for the pain and suffering they sustain. We also help those injured in motor vehicle accidents, and their doctors, get reimbursed for the medical expenses they incur. We handle hundreds of these types of cases every year. We also have a matrimonial practice where we protect and guide individuals in our local community. We make a big difference, not just in the divorce proceedings or the custody hearings, but in their lives as we get involved during a very tough time for them personally. We are also compassionate people who care about our clients on a personal level.

How did you build a successful practice?

By putting our clients first! Period! We listen and understand their needs. For example, not every divorce is hostile. Many divorce clients agree with their soon-to-be former spouse on the important issues and just need someone to guide them through the process and hammer out the details. The objective would then become negotiating a resolution in the most cost efficient manner. On the other hand, if the divorce is contentions, we become ferocious litigators. Each case is different and every client is different. How we handle the case is about the client's needs and not about the billable hour.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

It's tough to judge an attorney based on a half hour conversation but there are some things you can take from the initial consultation. Look for an attorney that is making you a priority and whether he or she is considering your individual needs. Consider how long it took the lawyer to return your call and schedule the consultation, whether the attorney allowed himself or herself to be interrupted during the consult and whether he or she cut the consult short because of another obligation. If you're not the primary focus when the attorney is trying to sign you up, then you're not going to be later when he or she already has your deposit.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Knowledge of the local laws and procedural rules is extremely important to the success of your case. Make sure any attorney you hire has the experience necessary to represent your interests and that the experience is commensurate with the hourly rate that the attorney is charging.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

The purpose of the initial consultation is for the attorney to get an idea of the facts and circumstances surrounding the dispute so the attorney can determine if it is within his or her area of expertise. It is also for the client to get to know the attorney so the client can determine if the attorney is someone the client wants to hire. If the attorney feels that the client is the right fit, the attorney may offer some guidance on the law and some ideas with regard to litigation strategy. The client should be aware that there is no attorney-client relationship at this point and that the guidance and or ideas offered by the attorney are based on the facts as presented by the client alone and without having reviewed the case file or researching any issues that could arise. Circumstances often change as the case develops.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

In order to determine if the client and I are the right fit I just need a basic understanding of the facts and circumstances surrounding the dispute. If the client chooses to engage our firm, we will gather documents and gain an in depth understanding of the issues after we are retained.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

Our knowledge, experience and passion for what we do. We listed to our clients, understand their needs and always put our clients first.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Helping people. Our clients all have one thing in common whether they are going through a divorce, were in an accident or are suing or being sued by a former partner, client or vendor for breach of contract. They are all coming to us during a difficult time in their life. The most rewarding aspect of our job is helping our clients get through those difficult times and come out on the other side in the best position possible.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I love spending time with my wife and two young children. I also love to golf and play basketball.

Are you involved in your community?

I am a member of the PTA at my daughter's school. I play in various local basketball and softball leagues. My kids are young but when they are old enough to play organized sports I look forward to coaching.
