Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
A client was being charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault. Within two days I was able to establish that there was a case of mistaken identity and the wrong person was being investigated and charged for the sexual assault. Because of this quick action, I was not only able to have my client's name cleared, but prevented him from having to undergo the stigma and scrutiny that comes with being publicly charged with a crime of this nature.
How did you build a successful practice?
Building a successful practice has been a slow but rewarding process. During my first few years of practice, I operated on a skeleton budget and therefore did not have any opportunity for advertising. Over the past 4+ years, by treating all of my client's professionally and representing them zealously, even taking calls in evening hours, I have been able to establish a reputation that leads to many word of mouth based referrals. I've very proud of the manner in which I have served and will continue to serve my clients.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should look for a lawyer who is experienced in the area of law their particular case lies within. They should find an attorney who they are comfortable with and can be completely honest with and who demonstrates their competency not by making promises of certain outcomes but by discussing all possible options and outcomes regarding a matter.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Practicing in a number of counties, including Orange, Jefferson, Hardin, Chambers, and Harris counties, knowledge of each judges particular practices and procedural requirements is very important in order to properly advise clients of the probable outcome of a hearing or trial on their matter.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
Depending on the nature of the information provided by the potential client, direction of any potential action, the procedural steps for handling their situation and an estimated cost of retaining my services.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
I need to know the nature of the issue, what has taken place regarding the issue to date, all pertinent facts which will vary widely depending on the nature of the issue for which the consultation is being provided, and knowledge of any previous orders or convictions regarding family and criminal matters.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
The combined knowledge of my practice areas differentiates the me the most. Criminal matters for example often may involve areas of property law and/or family law and/or estate law, and vice versa. Because I am an experienced practitioner in all of these areas, I am able to address legal issues from a multi-faceted approach.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
The most rewarding aspect of my job is when I am able to meet or even exceed my client's expectations. Depending on the nature of the matter, each area of law has its own rewards. For instance, the greatest reward in a family law matter is a successful adoption.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I enjoy politics, volunteer work both within my profession and the community at large outside of the scope of pro bono legal representation. For recreation, I enjoy playing pool, playing chess, live concerts and live theater.
Are you involved in your community?
Yes; in many ways including volunteer work for non-profit organizations and service work in the area of substance abuse and chemical dependency.
