Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I recently helped a client whose brother went insane and murdered his wife and then committed suicide. There were minor children of that marriage, so my client had to become the conservator of the minor children and probate both his brother and sister-in-laws estates. As you can imagine, my client was emotionally distraught over the circumstances and the cases involved some complexity. It was very rewarding to me to be able to help my client through this most difficult time.
How did you build a successful practice?
My practice has been mostly built by word of mouth from satisfied clients.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
A client should look for someone who has sufficient time to devote to his case and for someone he or she perceives will treat him or her fairly.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Local knowledge is quite important to my practice in that I am familiar with the staffs of the local probate courts, have a good reputation with them, and am therefore able to work well with the courts in handling cases.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
In a free phone conversation, I am able to provide my general overview of the law as it applies to the case. I am hesitant to give specific legal advice without being first retained by the client.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
I need a general overview of the facts and participants in the situation at hand to be able to understand the general nature of the issue being addressed.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I make every effort to timely return phone calls and emails and to keep my clients informed as a case progresses.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
I find the most reward in being able to help people through difficult times in their lives when there has been a family death or a need for a guardianship arises. I also find reward in helping people plan for the future via their estate planning.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
In addition to my family, I enjoy sailing and playing music.
Are you involved in your community?
Our family is very involved with our teenage daughters in numerous church and school activities.
