Cindy Nelson is an Attorney and the Founder of Nelson Elder Care Law. She focuses her practice on representing seniors’ rights and interests. She has been instrumental in strengthening Georgia legislation against elder abuse, securing additional funding for senior services, and the implementation of Georgia Alzheimer and Related Dementia plans. Prior to founding Nelson Elder Care Law, she worked for Area Agencies on Aging, a non-profit elder care law clinic, an elder law legal firm, the Georgia Long-term Care Ombudsman, a Superior Court Judge, and Cobb County Probate Judge.

My practice is centered in the areas of family law that includes appeallant cases. We also handle general civil litigation cases, including difficult cases like whistleblower employment cases. The central theme of my practice is helping individuals and business through life changing events. Prior to attending law school, I worked as a paralegal for twelve years with heavy client contact and extensive experience in civil litigation. My practice couples my education and experience with technological advances to deliver quality legal services to my clients. We are a smaller firm so we are able to keep client costs down.

I am a registered neutral in Georgia, focusing on domestic legal matters. As a neutral, I can help individuals facilitate their conflicts through mediation or arbitration. Resolving conflict without the aid of our court system is not a novel practice and it is certainly something families engage in every day. As a neutral, I guide the parties through negotiations and if necessary, can assist in drafting a mediated agreement or as an arbitrator, reaching a decision with consideration for the parties’ stated position. If the dispute requires court intervention, as an attorney practicing in metro Atlanta I have experience representing and assisting individuals and families with all aspects of family and matrimonial law including but not limited to divorce, custody, domestic violence, property division, parenting plans, child support, and legitimation. Despite the adversarial nature of litigation, my focus remains on ensuring my client’s interests remain with their children. I am pleased to work as a court-appointed and private Guardian ad Litem (“GAL”) representing the child client’s best interest. In addition, I am a certified parent coordinator to assist high conflict parents to return their focus and priority to their children and help disengage from the costs of litigation.
