About Amy

I am an Arizona native, born and raised in the East Valley. Upon graduating from high school, I attended the University of Arizona, where I received a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration, with a major in Business Economics. I then attended the University of Denver College of Law where I received my Juris Doctorate. I also had the opportunity to serve the Denver community by working in the University of Denver College of Law Student Law Office, Family Law Clinic. Upon graduating from law school, I returned home to Arizona to be near my family and to take the bar exam. I was admitted to the practice of law in 2003, and since that time, I have devoted my practice to Family Law, as I feel that is where I am best able to help others with difficult transitions in their family lives. I love living in Arizona, and enjoy all that this State has to offer. In order to balance my life, I explore the State, and spend time with my family.

Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

I was able to assist in the reunification of a mother and her daughter; this process was long, and at many times difficult, but in the end, both mother and child were happy to be together again.

How did you build a successful practice?

You listen to your Clients. You also don't overload yourself with so many cases that you cannot spend quality time working on the case for the benefit of your Clients. Each case is unique, and they each follow a different trajectory, therefore, having the desire and time to listen to your client and understand their needs to help them through a difficult process builds character ,and character builds a business.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Choosing a lawyer is such a personal process. The clients have to feel a connection, an understanding and comfort from their attorney. Look for an attorney willing to spend time with you, to discuss all aspects of the relationship underlying the case and the law as it applies to the specific case.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Having the local knowledge to support a position is vital in a case, as it is "real life" as opposed to theoretical. It also provides the attorney the ability to make the law understandable to the party, in a way that applies to their specific life and circumstances.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

I do not offer free consultations. I have in the past. Free consultations are limited in time - generally 30 minutes or so and that is not sufficient time to give a potential client any meaningful advice. In addition, there are a lot of people looking for free legal advice. A person would not consult with a doctor for free medical advice on a particular illness. I have a lot of knowledge and experience in family law. My consultation are generally 1.5-2 hours. Potential clients leave with significantly more insight than when s/he first came in.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

There are so many good attorneys in the community, and when choosing an attorney, you go with comfort, compassion and quality. In being a small firm, we work closely with our clients to truly understand what they need and how we can achieve those needs within the parameters of the law. We live in the community where we practice, and as such, we have the knowledge of the area and the ability to provide comfort to our clients. We are also parents, and understand the daily life of raising children, and how any changes in their home lives can greatly impact both the parents and the children.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Adoptions are amazing; the joy, the love, the peace that comes from an adoption order make every hard day worth it. Also, in getting a ruling that reflects the time and effort you put into protecting your client, which results in a happy client, make all of the difficult days worth it.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I love to read, hike, and spend time with my family (both immediate and extended). We try to live an active lifestyle and take advantage of the beautiful state we live in!

Are you involved in your community?

I am involved in out-reach programs through my church, and participate in many Girl Scouts activities with my daughter. Individually, my family regularly volunteers at Feed My Starving Children as my daughter really loves that organization.
