About Ann

Please describe a case(s) in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
Most recently, I took on a case that was near the statute of limitations. The client had been trying to handle everything himself, but was disappointed in the response by the insurance carrier of the at-fault party. I filed the case and not only obtained policy limits against the at-fault party, but I made a unique legal argument for the underinsured motorist limits of a vehicle he had just exited as a passenger that was parked and was not at fault. The underinsured insurance carrier also offered the policy limits.

How did you build a successful practice?
I live and work and do business in a few neighborhoods in Seattle. I have received referrals from local doctors, prior clients and other attorneys. I believe it is important to immediately return calls and address any concerns. It is a matter of trust and respect that you build with your clients. I keep my practice small so that I can respond quickly and represent their cases thoroughly.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?
I think the most important questions I would ask would be experience in the area of law, honesty and responsiveness. If a client has a question or concern, they should be able to reach their lawyer and get an honest response. Since this area of law also involves much litigation, I would want to know that my lawyer will be able and willing to try a case.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Generally, the tort laws of Washington are applicable statewide. However, when you work in a specific location, it is helpful to know who the lawyers, insurance companies and adjusters are that you will be dealing with across the plate. I have been practicing in the Seattle area for 27 years and I am familiar with many lawyers, insurance companies and local judges. This is immensely helpful in strategizing on a case.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I will listen to their facts and tell them what I think about both liability and damages. But always caution that there is no guaranteed outcome and when dealing with a contentious system, it is always best to have a lawyer represent you. I will also tell refer them to a different lawyer if their real question addresses a different area of law.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
I need to know date of incident, where it happened, and the facts of the incident. I also want to know what injuries they have as a result of the incident and a brief bit about what medical care they have sought after the incident.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I think two very important issues that distinguish me from most of the lawyers is that I have a long history of experience and more trial work than most attorneys. I also believe in responding quickly to clients and developing a trusting relationship.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
It is an honor and responsibility to represent people who have been injured and are upset or in crisis. The most rewarding is when I can give them peace of mind, and later in the case, a sense of justice.

What are your other interests in addition to law?
I have traveled extensively to far-flung area. I like to explore other cultures and see how others live in this world. I think this contributes greatly to my open-minded views and empathetic approach. At home, I like to do the usual Seattle things - hike, bike, run and walk my dog.

Are you involved in your community?
I am in my neighborhood Chamber of Commerce and recently joined the government group because I am interested in local issues and getting to understand how the people are addressing them.
