Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

The dismissal of individuals who were wrongly identified and prosecuted later to have their cases dismissed and sealed by the District Attorney's Office.

How did you build a successful practice?

My clients are always able to reach me either by phone, email or text 24 hours a day. I respond to emails and texts almost immediately upon receipt and return phone calls within a 24 hour period. I have a proven track record for zealously representing my clients and giving each 110% in both my motion practice and courtroom appearances. The majority of my practice is based upon the referrals I receive from past and current clients, and colleagues, who appreciate my straightforwardness and ability to achieve results.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Forthrightness. You want an attorney that is going to make sure that you, the client, know and are aware of everything the lawyer is privy to. A client cannot be expected to make an intelligent decision if they don't have all the information available to reach that decision. The other thing to look for in a lawyer is a level of comfortability and trust. If you don't get along with your lawyer, if you don't like their "style" , then it just won't work - a lawyer can't be effective if he's fighting the courts, the DAs (or ACS) and his client.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

There is no question it is always an advantage when an attorney practices on a daily basis before the same judges, court staff, prosecutors and support staff. The client is spared time, anxiety, and expense when an attorney knows his/her way around the local customs and procedures of the local court.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

A general assessment of the pending matter and the options I see available to the client. I also explain to the client what they can, and cannot, expect from a retention of my services.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

What charges are pending? Where are the charges pending? What were the circumstances leading up to the arrest/charges? Is there a relationship between the parties? Where did the incident occur? Was 911 called? Who reported it? Was the incident reported immediately? Was medical attention necessary or administered (and to whom)? If there are injuries - were pictures taken? Were any statements made to the police? Was there any identification made or was there any identification procedure done by the police (point out, show up, line up)? Was bail set (and the amount)? Was bail posted? Do they have a copy of their paperwork? Are there any immigration issues?

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I am a member of the Executive Committee of the Criminal Justice Section of the New York State Bar Assn. The Committee is comprised of the best in New York criminal defense which includes not only defense attorneys but District Attorneys from the various boroughs of New York and judges. We discuss issues of concern, such as the various ways line-up procedures are implemented by the NYPD or the need to record police interrogations, and how these issues can be resolved including suggestions to the New York State Legislature. I have 35 years combined experience in business and law allowing me to think beyond the constraints of ""black letter"" law. I am able to balance the theories of law with the practice of life.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Client satisfaction.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

Golf, walking, live theater and concerts, reading predominately non-fiction books, watching classic films on TCM.
