About Barney

Barney Mecom was born in Pensacola, Florida and grew up in Neptune Beach, Florida.  Barney and his wife settled in Morgantown, West Virginia after Barney completed law school at West Virginia University, where he now lives with his wife and two children.

Prior to attending law school, Barney was president and founder of Southern Marine Underwriters, Inc., a boutique marine insurance agency located in Jacksonville, Florida. He also served as convention planner for Festivities Publications and a substitute teacher.

Barney attended Appalachian State University before transferring to the University of North Florida where he earned a Bachelors of Arts in Philosophy.

Upon graduating from law school, Barney entered private practice where his practice has focused on litigation. His litigation experience has been broad and comprised insurance defense litigation, education law, healthcare compliance, MSHA citations, creditor rights, and real property litigation. 

Barney also served as a Law Clerk for the Honorable James A. Matish, of the 15th Judicial Circuit in Clarksburg, West Virginia.  He joined Pullin, Fowler, Flanagan, Brown & Poe, PLLC in 2008 and practices in the Morgantown, West Virginia office.

Barney is admitted in practice before the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals and the United States District Court for the Southern and Northern Districts of West Virginia.

Barney is an active soccer player and presently coaches his son's under-6 soccer team.
