Ben has been practicing law for more than 20 years. His practice focuses on transactions in the areas of commercial lending, real estate, intellectual property, and general corporate work.

In the area of commercial lending and real estate, Ben has assisted clients with the purchase and sale of nationwide portfolios of secured commercial loans as well as hundreds of commercial loan transactions and restructures. Ben also has assisted clients with the acquisition, financing and development of hotels, casinos, gas stations, convenience stores, restaurants, condominiums and apartments, as well as with commercial leasing. Clients have included national and regional lenders as well as developers, utilities and small businesses.

Bens intellectual property work has focused on software development, distribution and licensing, as well as trademarks. Ben has negotiated agreements involving software and content licenses, joint ventures to develop and market software, ASP (application service provider) hosting, software consulting, subcontracting, and value-added reseller agreements. Ben has assisted clients in evaluating and protecting portfolios of intellectual property in connection with acquisitions and divestitures of assets. Ben also has considerable expertise in open source software licensing, having written and lectured on the subject in recent years. Ben assists clients with open source license compliance as well as with the legal aspects of customization and support of open source software.

Bens general corporate work has included involvement in the purchase and sale of businesses, data privacy and security, the formation of new entities and ventures, and a variety of related contracts.
