Bob has been practicing law for twenty-nine years and is licensed in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. Bob attended the University of New Hampshire and graduated with degrees in Business Administration with minors in Economics and Philosophy. He subsequently completed his legal training at the University of Maine School of Law, graduating with his law degree in May 1988. He is admitted to practice in both state and federal courts in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine and the First circuit Federal District Court. Bob has been a member of the SSJM team since 1988. During Bob’s first decade as a lawyer, he primarily litigated commercial, business, personal injury and family law disputes. The financial and emotional cost of the traditional litigation model to Bob’s clients has caused him to redirect his professional energy. Although Bob frequently litigates appropriate cases, he now guides clients toward a collaborative and peaceful solution to their legal problems. In the collaborative method, clients maintain control, reduce legal fees and the emotional turmoil associated with litigation, all while maintaining privacy which does not exist in the litigation model. Bob is a member of the Mass. Bar Association, NH Bar Association, Maine Bar Association, Haverhill Bar Association, Middlesex County Bar Association, Salem, NH Bar Association, Essex County Bar Association, The National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), MA and NH NAELA Chapters, the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP), Massachusetts Collaborative Law Counsel (MCLC), Collaborative Law of New Hampshire and Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce. I began my legal career as a court reporter more than 25 years ago and participated in thousands of hearings, depositions and trials in criminal, probate and civil litigation cases before becoming an attorney in 2007. My passion for hard work has carried over into my legal career, and I don’t shy away from challenges. I enjoy being a part of a service-oriented profession. I am licensed to practice law in Massachusetts and Florida and am a member of the Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation, Inc. I have earned my J.D. degree from the New England School of Law and a B.A. degree from Notre Dame College, cum laude. Currently, my practice is focused on all matters related to family law, including contested and uncontested divorce, child support, child custody, alimony and property division. I am a seasoned and precise litigator who is extremely comfortable in the courtroom. I also, however, recognize the role and value of family law mediation and act as a neutral third party for divorcing couples who are looking to reach an agreement on their dissolution without the time and expense of court. I represent clients in the Metro Boston area and throughout eastern Massachusetts, covering all of Middlesex, Essex and Suffolk counties. When I’m not working, I’m enjoying time with my family and singing, playing guitar and writing music. As someone who values their family relationships very much, I understand the emotional nature of family law matters and the challenges these issues can present. I’m known to be a tenacious and caring advocate who listens to the needs of my clients and goes above and beyond to secure positive results.

After a few years, he enrolled in Suffolk Law School to pursue his Juris Doctor. In 1977 he graduated from Suffolk and began practicing law. He became a partner at Schlichtmann Conway & Crowley in 1983. It didn’t take long before attorney Crowley landed his first major case. In Anderson v. Cryovac (1986), attorney Crowley’s firm represented eight families from Woburn in federal court. The families sued three corporations for polluting the local groundwater with toxic chemicals, which led to a member of each family developing leukemia. A bitter legal battle ensued and the judge presiding over the case declared a mistrial. However, during the appeals process, attorney Crowley and his firm discovered that the defendants had made errors during the case, which led to crucial evidence being omitted during trial. Once this information came to light, the defendants agreed to settle with attorney Crowley and his clients out of court. The story was picked up by Hollywood and became an Oscar-nominated film starring John Travolta called A Civil Action. Since then, attorney Crowley has put his energy towards winning smaller cases. He founded his current firm, the Law Office of William J. Crowley, in January of 2000. He continues to work there today, maintaining a reputation among his clients as an astute, dedicated attorney that will never give up on a case he thinks is winnable.
