About Brian
Business Litigation:
An experienced trial lawyer, I represent businesses in all types of litigation. I work with clients on contract, environmental, product liability, and real estate disputes. I represent businesses in intellectual property disputes involving patents, trademarks, and trade secrets. When disputes arise between business owners, I help clients to understand and enforce their rights. I represent insurance companies in coverage disputes. I have researched and written many insurance coverage opinions. I also serve as local counsel to out-of-state lawyers.
I have tried cases to juries with excellent results.
To represent clients effectively, I enjoy learning about their businesses. For example, I completed fall protection training to become certified to climb billboards, escorted a client’s mascots through an international toy fair, and traveled with a client to interview witnesses at a motorcycle expo.
In addition to representing businesses in litigation, I serve as outside general counsel in negotiating contracts and providing advice.
I have been selected for inclusion in the Pennsylvania Rising Stars list. I practice in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia, as well as Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
Employment and Labor Litigation:
I defend businesses against discrimination and retaliation claims filed by their employees. I represent businesses in non-compete, trade secret, wage and hour, and whistleblower cases. In addition to litigating cases in state and federal courts, I handle administrative proceedings before the EEOC and PHRC.
I have significant experience in occupational safety and health matters. I have successfully tried citations before the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and represented businesses in achieving many favorable settlements. I enjoy helping businesses to enhance their workplace safety programs.
I also advise businesses on employment and labor issues. I work with clients to develop affirmative action plans, employee handbooks, job descriptions, pay equity audits, policies, and restrictive covenants. I represent businesses and executives in negotiating employment agreements and severance agreements.
When clients have unionized workforces, I provide advice on collective bargaining agreements, labor disputes, and unfair labor practice charges.
Depends on the specific case. Please contact me to discuss.

Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I find it rewarding to help all of my clients. I don't think I could single out a specific case.
How did you build a successful practice?
I take the time to listen to my clients. I work really hard for them.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
Clients should look for someone who genuinely cares about helping them, who is smart, creative, and hardworking.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
Every judge is different, and every court has specific rules, so local knowledge is critical to winning a case.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
I can introduce myself to the client and provide a good sense of whether they might enjoy working with me. Even if I am not able to help with a particular case, I hope to (at least) point the client in the right direction.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
I hope to learn about the client's goals. It's really helpful when a client puts together a timeline of key events.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
I really enjoy getting to know my clients personally and learning about their businesses. I feel that taking the time to build a relationship helps me to do a better job in reaching the client's goals.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
I love helping clients to solve problems.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
I enjoy traveling, hiking, skiing, and spending time with family and friends.
Are you involved in your community?
Yes, I actively participate in the Allegheny County Bar Association, and I also served on the Board of Directors of my kids' preschool.
