About Bruce

Bruce is the Supervisor of the Professional Liability Practice Group in our Roseland, NJ office. Since 1982, Bruce has handled in excess of one hundred matters in the defense of malpractice claims against various professionals including insurance producers, attorneys, nurses, x-ray technicians, physical therapists, accountants, and psychologists. His practice also includes the  defense of  various and multiple public entities in claims made against them.. As well, Bruce is Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney.

In 1972 Bruce graduated from Rutgers College with a degree in psychology and in 1973 from the University of Virginia with a M.Ed. in special education. Bruce went on to be a special education teacher in Maryland while he attended The Washington College of Law of The American University, from which he graduated in 1978 obtaining his J.D. Bruce began his career representing disabled persons in a variety of legal contexts.

Outside of his busy professional life, Bruce acts as a volunteer for Healing Spaces, a non-profit entity which refurbishes the rooms of children with life-threatening illnesses.

Significant Representative Matters

  • Successfully defeated a high six-figure business interruption claim brought against an insurance producer alleged to have placed improper policy limits.

  • Defended an insurance producer on a multi-faceted claim which began at $4 million in which a jury ultimately awarded $51,000.

  • Defended a wrongful death claim which settled for $650,000 after two weeks of trial in which the decedent suffered 30 minutes of conscious pain and suffering and his dependents alleged an economic loss of $1.2 million.

  • Successfully defended consolidated claims in excess of $1 million against an oil company, which, after two days of trial, settled collectively for approximately $70,000.

  • Defeated a claim of malpractice against a psychologist in which the plaintiff alleged that he became a patient of the psychologist after becoming part of a family intervention to help his son, who was in therapy, and during which it was revealed that the plaintiff's wife had sexually abused their son, which revelation ruined his marriage.

  • Successfully resolved a $1.5 million claim against a psychiatric hospital for $750,000 in which the decedent committed suicide after being informed prematurely by the hospital that his insurance would not continue to cover his care.
