Questions & Answers
Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.
I was counsel of record for appellant in a Federal appellate case involving Baltimore police officers charged and convicted on various federal charges. The appeal was unfortunately not successful, however it resulted in a published opinion from the Federal appellate court, dealing with the challenges to the conviction.
How did you build a successful practice?
Dealing in a straightforward manner with various clients and trial attorneys, and reading and researching each case. Writing briefs that are compelling and focused on the core issues on appeal, and that takes--in some cases--reading through voluminous transcripts, pleadings, exhibits, and court rulings.
What should clients look for in a lawyer?
An attorney who has the time to focus on your case, and has the experience to advance the relevant issues in trial or appellate courts.
How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?
It depends.
What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?
A review of the issues on a potential appeal and a general view of the case.
What information do you need in a free phone consultation?
A summary of trial litigation, the issues the client needs to advance in the appellate court, and perhaps potential client's permission to contact trial counsel.
What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?
Most trial lawyers do not take appeals, mostly due to time constraints. I take over when the trial attorneys has completed the trial litigation.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Researching and writing.
What are your other interests in addition to law?
Reading books.
Are you involved in your community?
Yes, to the extent I am able.
