About Daniel

Daniel Freudman is a barrister and solicitor with offices located in downtown Toronto. He provides professional legal services to clients within the GTA and across Ontario, including Brampton, Scarborough, Oshawa, Newmarket, Milton, Orangeville and Hamilton. Daniel rigorously defends persons charged with a wide array of offences under the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and other provincial and federal legislation. Daniel also represents individuals and small businesses involved in legal disputes, litigating actions in the Superior Court and Small Claims Court across the province.

Daniel Freudman has a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) as well as an undergraduate degree in Commerce (BComm). He attended Bond University's Faculty of Law, one of Australia's highest ranking law schools, and graduated with Honours. While in Australia, Daniel tutored criminal law, and worked at a civil litigation firm in downtown Sydney, specializing in Personal Injury claims.

After graduating law school, Daniel returned to his hometown of Toronto, where he completed his Articles of Clerkship at a reputable and busy law firm practicing exclusively in criminal law. There, he gained invaluable experience working on murder cases, drug/gun project cases and other high profile matters.

Following completion of his Articles, Daniel started up his own practice, Freudman Law, as he wished to manage his own client base and give each client the personal attention they deserve. Daniel was dissatisfied with the “big firm” practice of passing around files from associate to associate, with the clients seldom knowing who has present carriage of their case. At Freudman Law, Daniel has carriage and intimate knowledge of each and every case, and provides clients with his personal cell phone number (647-771-2416) so they can reach him at any time to discuss their case or receive status updates.

Daniel has conducted dozens of trials, both civil and criminal, in courthouses within the GTA and across Ontario. Daniel has appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice (both Criminal Division and Youth Court), the Ontario Superior Court of Justice (both Civil and Criminal), Small Claims Court and other tribunals. Daniel has also prepared and conducted appeals to the Divisional Court of Ontario, before both a single judge as well as a panel of judges.

In his free time, Daniel enjoys travelling, kitesurfing, hockey and learning new languages. Daniel speaks conversational Spanish, but can also engage in basic pleasantries in several other languages, including German, Hebrew, Mandarin, Italian and Polish. Daniel continues to develop his Spanish vocabulary, and is also presently learning Russian through audiobooks.

Case History

In an action against the Toronto Police Services Board and other private citizens for negligent investigation and malicious prosecution, Daniel successfully defeated a Motion brought by one of the Defendants to strike the client's Statement of Claim. As Daniel won the Motion, his client was able to proceed with the case, and was also awarded $1,500 in costs.

Case History

Client charged with Driving While Impaired by Drug. Crown called several civilian and police witnesses, as well as a toxicologist who testified that traces of three different drugs were found in client's urine sample. Nevertheless, Daniel was able to secure a complete acquittal for client by raising a reasonable doubt as to whether such drugs impaired client's ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Questions & Answers

Please describe a case in the last year or two where you made a big difference.

Client facing numerous charges including sexual assault and human trafficking; Crown was seeking lengthy term of imprisonment upon conviction. Several media outlets reported on the incident, vilifying client despite the presumption of innocence. I hired a private investigator to expose serious inconsistencies in complainant's story and ultimately was able to get Crown to unconditionally drop all charges. I then contacted media outlets to request they rectify their reports to reflect client's innocence. Client was vindicated, able to return to his schooling without the hindrance of any criminal record.

How did you build a successful practice?

Individual attention to each and every client, with specific knowledge of their case at all times, and able to be reached at any given time to discuss such.

What should clients look for in a lawyer?

Someone they can trust and confide in. The more open and comfortable a client is with their lawyer, the better able the lawyer is to understand and assist with the case.

How important is local knowledge to the success of your cases?

Knowledge of friendly parties (i.e. Crowns, Judges, opposing counsel) is very important, as knowing who I'm dealing with allows me to determine the best case strategy and reach the most favourable result.

What information can you provide in a free phone consultation?

Each case is different. Sometimes a full assessment can be made as to the merits of a case and best manner in which to proceed. Other times, merely a cost breakdown can be given, with further substantive advice to be given during an in-person meeting.

What information do you need in a free phone consultation?

Name, contact information, and pertinent case information, e.g. upcoming court dates, courthouse, etc.

What differentiates you from other lawyers in your community?

I offer very personalized legal services; I do not delegate significant tasks to others, I do them personally. I give each and every client my cell phone number, which is on 24/7, so they can always reach me (rather than a receptionist, assistant or answering service) with any urgent inquiries.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?

Obtaining successful case results, thereby validating the client's decision to put their faith in me.

What are your other interests in addition to law?

I enjoy playing and watching hockey, and engaging in other adventure activities such as mountain biking and kitesurfing. I also like travelling, seeing different cultures and learning different languages.

Are you involved in your community?

I do my best to assist with at least one pro bono case each month within my community.
