About Channing

Channing J. Hartelius began his storied law career in October of 1971 after graduating cum laude from George Washington University. Almost 50 years of experience. He acquired his strong work ethic from his grandmother, Augusta Kelm, while being raised on the farm his grandparents homesteaded near Great Falls. As such, retirement is not in the cards. Like the symbol of his firm, the lion, he is constantly on the hunt for success for his clients. He attended Great Falls High, where as a precursor to his career, he was twice named state speech champion.

He graduated with honors from the University of Montana where he was a debate champion and the Chair of the Model United Nations. After graduating from law school in Washington DC, Channing returned to Montana, where he worked in the Attorney General’s office and completed his military service before founding the firm that has evolved to become the Hartelius Law Center located at 401 Third Street North, in downtown Great Falls. Channing is a successful trial attorney, author, and active member of the community.

Among his many community contributions, he enjoys performing “A Conversation with George Washington” where he recounts his relationship with various political figures of Washington’s time. Channing lives with his wife, Donna, two pups, King Charles Cavaliers, Madison and Jager along with two Ragdoll cats, Winston, and Monte. He has four grown daughters and numerous grandchildren with whom he enjoys spending time. Channing splits his time between his residences in Great Falls and Cascade.
