About Charles
Lewis Mathis was born in Shelbyville, Kentucky, on November 30, 1937 and has been a lifelong resident of Shelby County, Kentucky. He attended Transylvania University on a baseball scholarship and after graduating there he obtained his law degree from the University of Kentucky. Prior to attending law school he was a real estate broker for two years and during this time his prior interest in law ripened.
During the 40 years of small town practice, Mathis has handled all types of cases in the civil arena and has found great satisfaction in assisting his clients. When questioned about what he likes most about practicing law, Mathis stated: "The most satisfying aspect of my practice has been the opportunity to help clients reach positive results for their concerns and problems. In many cases this far exceeds fees that have been earned and sometimes not paid."
Mathis is an avid tennis player and golfer. He also enjoys music and sings in a quartet. He served for 15 years as Shelbyville City Attorney and presently represents the local bar association overseeing the construction of a new judicial center for Shelbyville. He has served his community in various other capacities and is also very involved in his church.
Mathis feels very fortunate to be a member of a successful law firm that had its origin over forty years ago and has grown continuously over the years as a result of the efforts of all of the members of Mathis, Riggs, and Prather, PSC. He enjoys the many lasting relationships that have developed with clients over the years.
